Is the only year for a Pace car in the C3 generation the 1978 Indy Pace Car? Or are there any more? I haven't seen/heard of any more. Just curious.

I think the '78 Indy Pace Car looks amazing! Sure under the hood it's no different than any other '78 Shark, but it just looks nice! The spoilers and the paint job.

Yes - The '78 was the only C3 that was an Indy Pace Car. Other years Corvette was the Indy Pace Car include 86, 95, 98, and 03.

I believe that the C5s (and maybe C4s?) have been Brickyard 400 Pace Cars and Daytona Pace Cars, but no C3s that I am aware of. I don't know if any of these other Pace Cars had "official" Chevrolet-built replicas for sale or not though.

I agree - the Black/Silver combination is beautiful. If you really love 'em, I've got one for sale.:)

Are you still in the market for a vette Stallion

There is a place downtown that only sells classic/exotic sports cars. Small place but has had some :j cars there. I went by last sunday and he had a pace car there. The condition seemed good from the outside.

If you are interested I can get a phone number and contact along with some pics of the car.

jonstr, you've got a '78 Indy Pace Car for sale!? Can you post some pics? Maybe, if you're serious, we can talk via e-mail?

>> Are you still in the market for a vette Stallion <<

Absolutely! :D

What do you think that guy would be looking for his Pace Car? Less than $10k?

Thanks! :D

TR

Dunno I would have to call and ask.

I have seen it from the outside and the paintjob looks good. He has either had a few or has had the same one for a while now. Why? dunno. But if your serious I can call him up take a look at it for you and snap some pics.

That goes for anybody else looking for a C3. He has had more than a few

I bumped into an old friend about a month ago. He asked if I wanted to buy another vette. He was not sure about the year, but said it looked about like mine (1977). He also thought the going price was $3,500. I am not sure of the condition, but from the way he spoke, it sounded driveable.

You can find pictures and info at http://home.earthlink.net/~jonstr/78forsale.htm The car is going in the Kruse Auction in Scottsdale this weekend. I realize that's probably too quick make a decision, but feel free to drop me an email if you want more information. I have a reserve on it at the auction, so there is a chance it will not sell.

Wow. That's a might fine Vette. Pretty much just my dream (although I'm looking for a manual transmission). But the price is a little too much for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's worth every penny of that, but that's over my budget. Good luck with the auction! :D

vmrod, that's a pretty good and tempting price. If it's driveable, then I would personally go for it. I'm sure it would need some work, but that price is hard to beat. Pretty much what I'm looking for. :)

:D Texas is a little far for me. I think a Pace Car is a little over my budget right now. My first Vette probably won't be considered a collector's item. But I'd like to own that C3 Pace Car in my lifetime.

Thanks, everybody! :D

Hey stallion, Im a new owner of a corvette myself. I first drove one when I was 19, my brother inlaws 96. I fell in love with them ever since. When my brother inlaws friend told me he was selling his 79 vette I jump on it like white on rice in a glass of milk. I got it for 4000. It wasnt completely driveable, and it is off the road now for some repairs. This car has been a great learning experience for me. Im not too much older then you, I am 22. It took me 2 years to get mine after I got the itch for one. Good luck!

I kinda earned mine.

My dad bought it as a project for $3k off my uncle. He owns a parts store but didn't do anything with the car. Just sat there. He drove it home and went out of town that night. I learned to drive stick that night;). The best part was when I stalled in a 4 way with cars on all sides waiting to cross:duh. That was fun!:L

I worked on it when I had a chance through college. Usually over breaks. Car was in extremely bad shape. At one point I dug a hole in the ground so that I could pull out the starter because some wires had caught fire:(.~5K$ later she is drivable and has enough umf to kill modern GT's;).

My dad wrapped up the title of the car and gave it to me for Christmas. I asked why he gave me the car and said after all the money and work I earned it.

Great to see some young guys around (23 here)

Good luck with your projects errrr we gotta get you one TR!:L

Hey Stallion,

some time next week, I'll hopefully get around to taking a few pics and checking out the car. Even if you aren't interested, someone else may be.

Over the past couple years, I have seen fairly decent vettes selling for between $3,500 and $4,500.

My friend paid $3,300 for this one! It just needed some light body work and 1 new rim.

I think we may be teasing Stallion somewhat with out stories of *cheap* driveable Vettes. Notice that all the reports are coming from the South. That's because cars can stay on the road year-round for 25+ years and not rust! A couple of NJ winters can quickly curtail the life of these cars...most anything he'll be looking at up there will have been garaged all its life.

Stallion,

I think you can probably get a driveable C3 for 5 - $7,000. I paid $6,500 for mine 18 months ago and all it really needed to be a dependable driver was a new carb and brakes. I understand prices are down since then.

Now was it showroom quality. Far from it. I have spent multiples of that repairing various components, a/c, new dual exhaust, redone the interior, etc., that didn't impact the driveability but were needed in my opinion. And it still needs a very expensive paint job.

You will spend more money in the long run doing it like this rather than buying one in pristine shape. I know because I have. But I view it as a hobby rather than an investment and don't plan on selling the car. And I know whatever work that was done on the car was done right rather than "Mickey Moused" and hidden away to be found at a later time by some poor unsuspecting sucker.

The main thing I see here about purchasing a car, particularly where you live is rust. Mine was a Connecticut car and fortunately I only have easily handled surface rust.

Good luck.

Bob

I'll try to keep a better eye out for more vettes for sale, and then take some pics. I know that Louisiana is pretty darn far south, but it looks like you can save a few bucks by getting one here. ...and ya'll are right...rust is not really a problem with these cars.

Who know's? You may end up coming down to purchase a vette, and happen to catch mardi-gras too! hehe (if you like that sort of thing, that is)

That stuff is cool, but you have to wait in lines to go to the bathroom in a little port-a-let. The people are packed in tight (which is fine if there's crazy young girls around, but chances are there's obnoxious drunks next to you.). Also, the poor overworked police are a little extra "irritable" due to the giant crowds.

My last Mardi-gras was over 10 years ago! (I think I was one of the loud, obnoxious, drunks back then) :). I like to do my partying safely at home these days.

Thanks again, everybody, for the replies. vmrod, that Vette your friend got for $3.3k is a pretty good deal. That little work needed doesn't sound too much. Just curious, was that a custom hood? The cowl kinda looks a little different.

If only I could find one like that to do the little necessary immediate work on, I would be a very happy camper. :( Hopefully soon. Hopefully...

>> Now was it showroom quality. Far from it. <<

I understand. And I know what I will get for $6k. I'm totally prepared for that. And I would also like to do work and put money into the Vette. Just like you, it would be my very enjoyable hobby. :D

The car is totally custom. The hood is a twin turbo hood. Daytona front end (wide version). Ground effects all around the car. Turbo rear wing spoiler. Removable rear window.

My friend is actually thinking of getting rid of it, cuz he wants an original vette, although I think it looks good as is.

I see. What exactly is meant by "Turbo"? Is that some sort of fuel injections mechanism?

I'm pretty much over at collectorcartraderonline.com every week looking for newly posted Vettes. Are there any other online ways to look without traveling (until I find one that I want to go see)? Any suggestions?

Thanks! :D
