The turbo hood is just the name of the style. It's an aftermarket hood. It has a raised center portion to accomodate taller intake manifolds (the part that sits ontop the engine and under the carburator). The hood has some cool looking scoops near the front and vents in the rear.
Check-out this web-site for various pics and styles of hoods.

I have no idea about the best way to locate a vehicle that is far-away. I can say this, I think that by talking with everyone here at CAC, a vette might be located fairly close to a member. The member may be able to take pics and provide comments. I've seen a few vettes sell for good prices withing the last 2 years and they looked fairly good mechanically for the price.
If you're interested, I'll definetly look into the vette for you next week. I don't think the guy was in a rush to sell it. Just, don't get your hopes up, cuz I haven't seen the car or checked it out yet. (It might even be sold already)
Although I'm not a professional mechanic, I do all of my own mech-work (except air conditioning). I've rebuilt/replaced my entire rear end of my vette (brakes, springs, trailing arms). I do my own engine work and anything else that comes up. So, I should be able to give you a good idea of the condition the vehicle is in.
I'm also keeping my eye out for other vettes too. It takes over an hour for me to get to work, so there's a pretty large area for me to check-out. (basically it's only 2 cities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, cuz in between is mostly swamp!)
