Hello,

I am considering purchasing a 72 Coupe (350 200hp / Auto / AC) and have a couple questions on the vacumn system for the lights / wiper door / ?. The current owner told me one of the hoses (does know which one) has a vacumn leak so he has the vacumn port blocked off unless he needs the system(s) to function. When the port is reconnected all the systems do work he claims.

My first question is how hard is it to replace all the lines going to the different assemblies? After 33 years I suspect it's time to R&R all those lines. Are there any really difficult / expensive gotchas in the vacumn system?

Second I would appreciate any advice on any common hard to see issues on the early C3 I should watch out for...

Thanks for any advice..

It's not that difficult to replace the vacuum hoses on a '72, but...there are quite a few. I would suggest buying a vacuum hose kit from one of the vendors (I bought mine from Dr. Rebuild). The kit should come with all the hoses....and a hose routing diagram similar to this one.

Then it's nothing more that a bunch of scrapped knuckles replacing all the hoses.

I just replaced the lines in my 75 with a kit from Doc Rebuild also. It was very easy to install, with the only problem being scraped knuckles as stated above. I am new to Vettes also, having purchased my first one this past September. The main thing to look out for is rust in the frame and birdcage. Good luck!

Thanks

Thanks for the info and the Dr.Rebuild vendor name. I checked out his website last night and it looks pretty good.

Ditto........Doc Rebuild had best price, factory correct striping on the hoses

Wayne, I'm about to embark on the R&R of my vacuum system also. As far as your purchase of the '72, if possible, take someone versed in C3's when you do the inspection. Put the car on a hoist and check the frame for rust especially around the kickups in front of the rear wheels, leaking calipers and the rear axle bearings/yokes for play. Charles
