Here is the step by step process for changing out your battery on your C4. The car used for the demo is a Callaway Aerobody car however, the process is similar for a standard body Corvette :)

As you know, the battery is located under the frame support bar / cruise control behind the front tire on the drivers side.

Next, back out and remove the torx head bolts holding the gill panel to the inner fender skirt. There were three torx 30 bolts and two torx 10 bolts on mine. It is best to turn your tire to reach in for these :)

And here is the new battery going in :)
Carefully reverse the process and fire her up ;)

Nice post, I would add one little bit.

When you put the panel back be sure to position it far enough forward so that the door lip clears it when you open/close the driver door.

I had mine a little too far back & my door hit & scratched the panel a little.

I doesn't show much but it's avoidable if you shove the panel forward.

You can also do it without removing the panel at all.

Remove the cruise control servo, 2 10mm bolts, and swing it out of the way. Remove the fender well bolts and the hidden 10mm under the seal. Disconnect and unbolt the battery and tip it sideways. You have to gently push the panel out at the top about a half an inch for the battery to clear. Reverse to reinstall.

For cars that have ground effects this is the way to go, otherwise you have to remove your lower panel to get the side panel off.

Cheers! :beer

Guys, Thanks - I tried to make the thread as comprehensive as possible - to clarify, I did not remove the entire side "GILL" panel - In this pic, you can see I draped a cloth over it to protect the paint but the lower panel /gill was not entirely removed.
You can also see on my 89, the cruise ctrl. is not moved in any way either.
Hope all this helps - I have it down to about a 10 minute job, in & out :beer

Its not a hard job if I can do it! The hardest part was trying to get the gill panel back in line again. The whole operation took me about 2 hours being really careful.

2 Hours:confused Did that include stopping for lunch (and using a charcoal grill ;) ) ??
Geezzzz, if you have the new battery ready, it is about a 5 minute removal and 5 minute installation - Of course, the more breaks you take, I guess the longer the job will take.
enjoy :beer

No, but I removed the battery tray and cleaned it, Then cleaned the firewall behind it etc etc.

Mine took a couple hrs also, I removed the batt tray, it was crummy. There was one hex head screw on the bottom that was the devil to get out/in because of the angle. Too tight for a universal & I was using 1/4 inch drive stuff.

Mine took like three hours because i also wax the car while i was at it.:L

Pics GREAT! Thanks.
