1996 LT1- Blk/Blk. 1996 LT4 - White/Blk
A couple questions, I race this car on the drag strip 6-10 times a summer, I will be upgrading my rear differential in my 1996 LT-1, auto trans, for a performance upgrade and to handle current and planned future engine power mods. Was originally going to put 3.55's in my D36, but general consensus is that I will break the D36.
So;
#1. What all is needed to swap it in my car?
#2. Who makes a package diff unit with all needed conversion pieces?
#3. I want the 3.55 ratio not 3.45, anyone know if it is available in the D44?

thanx in advance !:w

1) Torque beam, prop shaft, drive axle
2) Not sure, but I know Zip Products sells the drive axle assemblies which are reman.
3) Probably not gonna happen. The very rare 3.54 gearsets for D44s are, obviously, hard to find.

The difference between 3.55/3.54 and 3.45 is not going to be that important.

What will win races is reliability along with the mother's milk of drag racing....consistency.

Thanx Hib! Was wondering whether 3.54/.55 was even an option in a D44. I had the 3.45 in my LT-4 and was just thinking if I could get a ratio option between that and 3.73. Have ruled out 3.73's since it will be driven as a daily driver and vacation trip car in the summers also.
So 3.45 it is !

Anyone have feedback on the Mid America or Ecklers 44 units???

3.54 gears were available in 1989 and very early 90.

GM went to the 3.45 because the tooth count of the 3.54 ratio was inherently noisy.

Hib, are you still around on this site ??
