Hello fellow C4 drivers. I am looking for an article on how to replace the busings on my LH headlamp motor. I have the bushings - just not sure what to remove to do the work. I couldn't find the blow by blow in the shop manual either. Any help appreciated.

Unplug the two connectors and release the wiring clamp.

Remove four nuts, two on each side of the headlight unit.

Remove the nut holding the brace on the inside, lower stud.

Remove the two hex head screws at the bottom.

Remove the unit and put it on the bench after putting down padding on the bench.

At the base of the motor you will see a cover with three screws. Remove those three screws.

Drive the roll pin out of the linkage on the opposite end of the motor gearbox from the three screws.

Push the shaft through the linkage which will push the gear and shaft out.

Separate the plastic gear and shaft and replace the bushings. Home Depot number 595609 found in hardware in the pullout drawers with various fasteners.

Reverse the procedure for reassembly.

Good luck,

The Corvette Magazine article got me through it. I printed it out and went step by step. It took me a couple of hours but it was done right and it's still perfect after more than 2 years.

I agree, that was the article I used when I changed mine. Pictures and everything.

Is there much difference between the headlight assembly in a 96 vs. an earlier model C4? Will the directions in these articles be the same for a 96 model bushing replacement?

I believe the change went into affect in '86 or so. The later ones had bushings while the earlier ones did not. At least that's what my fuzzy memory tells me. But the Corvette Magazine article will apply to your '96.

The chage to the worm gear drive motor with the three delrin bushings started in '88.

Good luck,
