I'm having abnormal idle, it is only occurring once in a while, i have talked to a few people and they explained that there is device that travels back and forth within the TPI unit and it may be dirty is this possible or is it something else:confused

There's a what that moves where, hmmmmm

Maybe IAC (Idle Air Control)

If this is what they mean there is a chance that it is the problem, are you getting any SES lights, it also could be a vacumm leak or EGR.

As for your question here is a link I found that explains the IAC
http://www.applink.net/cct/tips/IAC.html

OH WOW, I just realized you are in Canada, where abouts.

And welcome to CAC the only place to be on wet rainy nights.

Mart

I'm from Welland (niagara region)
Thanks for the link !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No ses lights appear at all it just does when ever it feels like it!!!!!!

I agree with you, Mart. Either vacuum leak, EGR or really dirty TB and/or IAC motor. I was a Tech for over 20 years (still work on my & friend's cars) and the Throttle Body is ignored by a lot of mechanics. It is, after all, very similar to the carb body, in the fact that a lot of air runs thru it, along with a lot of dirt. Sometimes, just cleaning them up makes all the difference in the world.
Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the help can you tell me where the IAC motor is located?:)

See the black round thing on the bottom left, with a black nut on it, that is the IAC on the throttle body, pretty easy to get to.

How many K's on the car.

Your L98 engine is a little different from my Lt4. But, I will tell you where to look. It should be below or on the side of your throttle body. A large nut should be built into it for a wrench to fit on. I think 1 or 1 1/4". An electrical connector with 3 or 4 wires should be attached. There will be an O-ring on it when you take it out. Do not lose the O-ring. Take the O-ring off, put it aside and use either carb spray or throttle body spray to clean off the end (called the pintle). Air dry the part. Reinstall. Start engine. You should notice a nice high idle upon start-up. Should go to low idle after several seconds.

Thanks man can't get better than that :cool
Can i just take it off and clean with no complications?
I have 80,000k's on the car.

Mart, great pic. I responded before you had yours posted. They say pics are worth 1,000 words. 2,000 in my case.
Thanks for the help.

There is actually a small pintle inside there with a spring on it, you have to be very careful with it, also cleaning that is the easy part of the battle.

Idealy you should remove the TB and clean the whole unit, it's really hard to get the stuff inside out while on the car. If you do just the TB new gaskets and all you will notice a throttle response difference.

Check this thread out, it is one I started for my TB revival and intake manifold sealing. There is a really gross pic of the before and after I cleaned my TB.
