Hi, Just need some good advice from a pro. I have a really nice c4 83k miles runs awesome everything works great, Interior perfect. thinking about trading for a c5 What are the pros and cons of a c5 against what i have other than the change of the body style, and you can get in and out eaiser, should I trade for a c5, probaly a 1997 or 1998 c5. Thanks for the advice. don't wanna get taken! Bill sticks5a@yahoo.com

I test drove a C5 and in my opinion, getting in and out of c5 is not any easier than a C4. If you get a C5, I would get a 2000 and up because any bugs in the C5 would have been fixed by then.

Pro's - Next generation in design. In my opinion a better looking body style. LS engine, many upgrades available for it. Stiffer chasis better handling. Easier ingress, egress. Prices on C5's are getting lower.

Cons's - Really its already an outdated car, in my opinion. You are not going to get any worth while money for your C4 in a trade, so essentially you're throwing away money to buy another car that is going to lose money. The C4 still has a following, has good performance, and is still a corvette. If its paid for, it wont cost you a dime unless you watch how much money you throw at it.

I know a lot of this depends on what you want in a car. I have done some upgrades to my C4 to make it a better driving car. But its getting long in the tooth. The engine is getting about ready for a freshening up. Do I want to throw money at it to bring it up to todays h.p. levels? Or sell it for a loss, and spend more money to buy a C6. I personally am skipping the C5 entirely.

If I were to upgrade today, I would also look for a C6. :) But than again, an upgrade for me is many years down the road.

Not claiming to be a pro...

Bill- I think the C4's are close to the bottom, pricewise, but perhaps this is not a money decision. I came close on a C-5 Z06 and found the in/egress easier, but I prefer the C4's styling. It sounds like your car will run for many years with no more problems than a C5; all dependent on the care and feeding of each, surely.

If you make the change, sell and buy privately with care, for the best bang/buck. I fully understand the hankering for 'new' and have lust pangs for the new ZR1; a cold shower helps. Also, doing some upgrades to the car helps at a much lower cost.
Next up? The Shinoda body goes on. :w

Bill, if I may suggest that you use the SEARCH engine provided here to research this topic on this board. This question has been asked and answered many times in many different manners and all it does is open the door for some degree of verbal hostilities between those who prefer C4 and those who prefer C5. Do a search and you'll see what I mean.

Based on the fact that you have already driven and experienced a C4, all I'll say is maybe you should spend a day with a C5 and then make up your own mind. It is your money you should decide how to spend it.:)

Corvette Mag

I would pick up Corvette Magazine they have a good ride up on the C% vette this month and last was on the C4 as for costs and things to look for on each year. As for my choice I would love more room in the seat but I love the C4 lines and to me the C5 just doesn't have the style

I've had 'em all .All we're great cars and in it's own way C4's are still great .2003 was the first year that the C5 was problem free .:D

Hi! thanks so much for your reply, I'll pick up the mag and read the artical. Bill
