Guys and gals, I am trying to connect an XM radio FM modulator that is a hard wired system in my car. I was going to utilze the same wiring set up as many have used for their V1s, HOWEVER, there seems to be a bit of a problem, that is a lack of the prewired outlet under the passenger side toe board!! Reference a similar topic here:

Anyone have any ideas or anyone with an '04 solve this problem yet? TIA!

*sounds of crickets* ...anyone?...:cry

04's don't have the accessory lead. I recall that there is an unused fuse socket at location 22 that has switched power. Not sure so test it first. LittleFuse makes a fusable plug that goes into the socket. Its about $8 and available at Pep Boys, Auto Zone etc. Just make sure you buy the one for the size of fuses used in the Vette. The plug contains a pigtail that is also fused to conned a power wire to. The trick will be to figure out which wire is power and which is ground on the V!. I think that there are a number of posts which address that issue. Hope this helps

Thanks. I'll take a look. I was hoping to not end up making any modifications to the electrical system... I may just be stuck though. :(

This won't be a modification. The Littlefuse product will plug into the fuse block just like a fuse - there is no cutting, splicing, etc. Essentially, you are just putting a pigtail on a fuse.

just cut a piece of thin brass shim stock the same width as a fuse terminal and solder your wire to the brass. then bend the brass shim around the fuse terminal and plug the fuse back into the fuse block and this will hold the shim stock in place. i just did this to install my passport in my C-6

I had to address this problem last spring, after we bought Ole 3Balls39 and before we drove it cross-country to L.A. but I can't remember exactly what I did. I'm on a road-trip right now and away from the shop. When I get back there tomorrow, I'll talk a look at Balls three-niner and then post how I wired the CB and the cell phone.

Can you use the accessory outlet wire that's in the center console? That's where I am plugging mine into. I'm not hardwiring mine, but it could be done right there, and the wires could run under the console to where you are placing the reciever head. I believe that outlet is unswitched, so you would have full control of turning the power on/off with the reciever controls. If you decide to do that, and you are going to remove the console for access, let us know. We can tell you how to find all the hidden nuts and torx head screws for removal.

Right now, that is where I plug mine into with the cig. adapter. The problem with that is, it gets very hot if left plugged in. With the Roady, there is the option for auto-on, as when plugged into a switched power supply, as soon as the the car is on, the system turns itsself on, and back off when the car is off. Plus, with the hard wired system, the sound quality is supposed to be even better than with either a cassette adaptor or an external FM modulator, like what I was using (before I sold my complete system right out of my car and bought another one). I utilize my center console for other storage, and as compact as the area is, the power cig. adapter takes up too much room, and I don't like the wires hanging all over the place. I bought a cel-phone mount from Kuda-USA that mounts to the side of the console (it would look factory fit if I were able to get it in shale, but it's only available in black) that I mounted the Roady to. So all the wires will (eventually) end up going into this mount and under the console, sight unseen.
If the Z06 has the accessory plug under the passenger toe board, you might want to look at the hardwire FM modulator. Part #SA10003. I found mine on Ebay for pretty cheap, brand new in the box. It is designed for the SkiFi, but I believe it was released before the Roady came out. It should work just fine with the Roady as well.
Have you found a good way to mount the antenna yet? Right now I have a 18x16 inch sheet of steel pressure fit to my back wall. It rests on the floor and pushed up against the rear wall by the center cargo bin cover and the top is slid under the trim/hatch seal. It works ok, but the satellite signal does not go through glass as well as it does fiberglass, and although the panel is larger than the required 6x6 inch mounting surface of the antenna, it still does not receive as well as it did when mounted to the outside of my Boxster. I saw a car the other day with a very nice extrenal glass mounted antenna, but I haven't been able to find it for sale anywhere. It was Delphi XM brand, so it should be readily available... somewhere. It had a thru-glass mount, but I don't know if it simply stuck onto the glass and transmitted through the glass or if it required drilling through the glass for wires and screw mounts.

Hmmm, That heat does present a problem. i was reading on one of the 3 forums that I frequent that many are placing the antenna against the right rear 1/4 panal, and securing it with tape behind the carpet. That's probably where I'll end up placing mine when I do the final install. Right now it's loose so I can move it from vehicle to vehicle, with the antenna just sitting on the dash in the right corner. I need to purchase one more automotive installation kit for the antenna and cradle one of these days.

Thanks Hib! :beer I'll be looking forward to some info!

Hib, have you had a chance to take a look at this yet? I'm going to "try" weather permitting to finish this up this weekend. Thanks!
