Based upon your advice on the forum, I removed the column lock bypass installed in my 1999 C5 coupe (A4) and took the car today to my Chevrolet dealer to have the customer satisifaction campaign "fix" performed.
Now, when starting the car or shutting off the engine and removing the key, you can hear the column lock motor "whirl". The steering wheel does not lock when the ignition is off and the key removed.
Should I still hear the "whirl" from the column lock motor after the Chevrolet "fix" was performed? I thought the repair would eliminate the motor function.
Thanks for your help and advice.
PS - My car was purchased new and my wife and I were stranded out-of-state by a defective column lock module that immobilized the car. It had to be towed and we were stranded for three days. The car was repaired under the new car warranty before the July 2000 campaign was announced.
