C4s at local auction prices

I've been dabbling in weekly car auction at Darlington SC ... mostly car dealers attend. Rarely see any type vette there. Tonight there were two C4s. Both were presented by dealers and both in average condition for their year ... (I don't mean that higher standard we might expect for corvette) ... I mean average for a used car. Here are general descriptions ... I don't know any further details.

84 white L-83 crossfire coupe with auto approx 125K miles. Car did not meet its reserve (BTW, I bid $2800, someone else high bid $2950) ... grapevine says reserve about $3700.

87 two-tone (kinda bronzish-gray & black) TPI coupe with auto approx 125K miles. Car did not meet its reserve ... grapevine says reserve about $6600.

Anyone care to comment on these prices? I'd like to know how they stack up against what some have recently paid.

it sounds like the prices they want are close to retail... which is why they didn't sell.... there were a ton of 84's made (over 50,000) and they aren't very popular purchases, which is driving the price down on them to the 3-4k range (with miles and use) '87's are more popular, but with that kind of miles and use I doubt they would ever get over $6,500 for it. Just my opinion, I am sure others have some ideas as well

Pick up a copy of the Carolina Trader.....there is many Vettes in there...they are on line but you have to subscribe to the paper....
This will give you some of an idea of what they are selling for in the Carolina's

What Auction?

If this wasn't a Manheim Auction then it wasn't a real auction for dealers only and those kind of vettes do not show up at real auctions.

Be very carefull about auctions some of them are self controlled. But l do not want to get into it.

At a Manheim auction there are cerified cars that are checked out before going off. And they have over 20 lanes going at once depending on what it is and where it came from.

So be carefull out there.

don't know about the 84 but blue book value on a almost mint condition 87 with 50k in miles is 6500 so that car at auction should sell in the 3k range would think.

those prices are definetly private sales pricing definelty not wholesale!

Those reserves are private sales prices, sounds like a public auction. Be Careful.
