I took my C5 on the longest drive yet - about six hours with one stop for dinner. This car is a blast around town but it doesn't begin to show it's real colors until you drive it over a long period. Sure the suspension is firm (Z51) but the seats are fantastic. Drove it in the morning with the top up, A/C on, CD player going and it was heaven. In the afternnon we did some top down driving. Very little wind buffeting - compared to my older verts (65 and 67). In fact this one in nothing like my old ones. You could drive this one for many hours and still feel great at the end of the day.

I totally agree. We will be driving the FRC up to NC next month and am looking forward to the drive. I'm amazed at the comfort of the ride with the Z51. It's firm, yet very comfortable.

Remo, did you ever get your car lowered? Haven't seen an update about it. Was wondering how you liked it.

Remo,

I'm glad to hear that the C5 is a great driving car for long distances as we'll be taking Alan's '02 to Carlisle, and that's 450 miles. It will be nice to arrive there and feel great!

Note to Gorgon

Leon,

I did update the original thread called "Mild Lowering". Long story short - was advised against it due to negative impact on the electronic calabrations relative to the interactive suspension. Easy job to do but nothing work "just right" afterwards. Plus the car would need a full four wheel alignment.

Elaine,

When you and Alan get to Carlisle you'll be ready to "dance the night away" at the Clarion.

hey,
i totally agree, the c5 is one of the only cars you can kick a$$ with on a road race coarse, then turn on the cd and a/c,and have a comfortable 200 mile ride home.some times the corvette get taken for granted.:w

Remo,

We plan on doing just that!;) Hmmm...now that I think of it, the Clarion doesn't have a band. Guess you guys will have to provide all the music!!:L

Hi Remo,
I was recently transfered from a store about 7 miles away to a store 30 miles away. The Vette is definately a dream during that drive. Either windows up with A/C, windows down, or with the top popped off, the thrill is there. My oldest brother had once said, "Whatever gets your engine going". And it's a great ride going home. Unfortunately the new store is right dead center of the lake effect snow belt. December will not be fun.

Corvette is a great long hauler. I Used to drive my 1977 2000+ miles a month to work. Did that for 2 years. A big grin the whole way. My brother's been back and forth to Florida twice this year in his C4. I'm just waiting for Jr to go to college (3 more years) so I can take mom cross-country in our C5.

I guess these boys had the right idea:

Ok, Remo I'll take the bait.

Frank - The Route 66 guys were just what Remo & I have in mind since we'll leave MA in September, meet up with the Southeast gang to run the Dragon and then on to the NCM & Plant tour. Six days in Remo's C5 and I'm looking forward to it. I wonder why he didn't want to go in one of my 82's :D?

Elaine - No dancing at the Clarion but there is at our hotel :dance. No, I refuse to dance with Remo or Rowdy1 so you better come over.

The only C5 I've been in was Mrs. Schroder's (Tammy) ZO6 for about an hour. What a neat car, so this trip will be a blast!

82-Guy,
I put KYB gas shocks in my 76 Coupe and it rode like a Cadillac on the highway. It rode more comfortable than my 2001 with Z51 suspension. If Remo has Z51 option then maybe the 82 would be the better choice.

I never me a Vette I didn't like.

Oh, my but Alan's HOT ;LOL but I know he belongs to you :D.

Frank - Thanks for the sugestion, I might just do that, but I want to drive Remo's car :Steer.

:w
Guy - Drive it like you stole it :D!

I totally agree regarding the comfort of the C5, believe it or not, I don't find the comfort of the C4 to be that bad either.

I have driven my '90 back and forth to Bowling Green from New Hampshire and a couple of those drives consisted of 14 hour stints at the wheel with the exception of "pee breaks" and a 1/2 hour lunch.

Settle into a nice steady pace - plop the tranny in 6th gear, turn up the tunes and snuggle into comfort. That's what makes the Corvette a fantastic GT as well as a high performance sports car. :)

I'm not snuggling with Remo :D.

I've taken many trips in C4's and I thought they were pretty comfy so I'm looking forward to Remo's C5.
