C5 experience FIRST

My first experience with a C5 was yesterday. A 2003 ZO6 red 6 speed. Drove on Pa turnpike and Pa 219 to the Johnstown area. Basically all 4 lane. 120 miles. WOW what a machine. Was passed on the turnpike by a red C5 with Ohio vanity plates MI VETTE. Don't believe there was a front plate. Ohio is a two plate state. Gave him a wave but not sure of a return. Traffic was heavy. Traveled the same area to and fro and know the law was at work.
The speedomter did get beyond the 65 a couple times briefly. I believe. Nothing near the 200 it registers. Did step on it to get beyond a BMW. Had to do it as my old boss has one. Must notify him of the event.

It's a rocket car. In NY where "bear season" is 365/24, it is difficult to "open her up". But, whenever I can, yeeeha. Put in your favorite CD, take the top off, crank it up (like way up) and enjoy driving nirvana. There is a state road I take to work. It has great turns and is 55. I haven't seen "bears" there but being careful is key. Before that is an interstate. It's the best of both worlds. If you do get a C5, just drive it. If you have any other Vette, drive that too.

This car has a Bose radio in it. Didnt play around much with it but it doesnt seem to be anything to write home about. Had this experience with another GM vehicle.
Is there a secret to getting better performance from it.

Hi VanityBob,
1) maybe upgrade the speakers;
2) play CD's you don't mind turning up loud.
Actually it's a toss up in sound quality between my Buick (with a Sony system), my wife's Taurus wagon(1997) and the Vette. At least in the Vette I can take the top off and crank it loud. Wow!!!!!!!

I can handle whatever but thought Bose was special with a higher price tag.

What can one expect for 40 to 50th bucks. ($)

Hey VanityBob,
For 40-50K$ I expect fast, tight cornering, decent ET's, great braking, and all 4 wheels on the ground. Sofar, no dissapointments there. The sound system IMHO is just a bonus. Anyway, who listens to the music? That's just background noise to the hum of the engine and the tires on the road.

Bose?

Bose has built a reputation which has earned it detractors and admirers alike. For home stereo it is pretty darn good equipment as far as speakers are concerned, but somewhere along the transition to auto equipment something is lacking, IMHO. My C5 sounds pretty good with the Bose system and I'm gonna live with it. I might try upgraded speakers as a later date.

I like to listen to my stereo and 12-disc changer but we almost always have the top down when driving it and we have Borla Quad Round Stingers, too. So, a fantastic stereo system wouldn't matter much anyway.

I know it is relative to one's definition of loud but how much louder are the Borla stingers over the stock system? I put aftermarket mufflers on an 88 I had and it sounded great but was very hard on the ears inside the car at hwy speeds. I see that the Borla's have low/no resonance (sp) . The stock systemon the C5 sounds pretty good but not like a vette should sound imho.
