Hi

I want to remove the wheels on my C5 one at a time for cleaning but dont want to damage the car, can i jack up my car using the pucks placed in the side rails or do i need to raise the front and rear ends and place axle stands under each side as it shows in the manual. I know this is the safest way but i would still like to know.

I think a few lawyers were looking over the shoulders of the people writing those manuals......(if you get my drift). So think about it this way. If you raise one side, you really don't have to lift it exceedingly high to put a safety jack under it. If you're just raising the car to pull a wheel to remove it, just build a wooden spacer and block it high enough to spin the wheel to remove the tire. Keep the jack there for safety also. You don't have to tweak the whole chassis just to get a tire off. What happens if you get a flat on the road?....I'm sure you don't have to have the other end lifted to change a tire like they show in the manual.
I'm not trying to be facetious here Aaron, I just wanted you to get the concept that you won't hurt anything, and the book is littered with safety clauses...... litigiously (if that's a word?) speaking.

I have a 18" piece of 2x4 with a thick carpet glued to it. I use this right between the jack points. I lift one side remove and clean them, reinstalll and do the other side. I've done it many many times with no problems. (Do chalk the wheel on the other side though)

Sounds like you got it wired. I hope you're using a torque wrench and using a star pattern to sinch the lug nuts back on? If you're doing that, then I feel confident you can tackle almost anything on the car. Have fun making the car looking nice.

Thanks for the advice, I feel much better now. Thats one of the problems with owning a Vette in England theres no one to ask advice from. :)

Aaron, I can't tell you the wealth of experience and talent on this website. But let me say this. If you're looking for any Vette info, help, general topics, or any of the in's and out's of your Vette, you've come to the right place. I've learned so much in here. I think you will too. Visit often.

I think the C5's have a stronger frame than the C3's but I always popped open the hood, doors, and rearhatch because of body twist when you lifted one corner of the car.

Still might be a good idea.......:beer :w :Steer :v
