2003 50th Annversary Red coupe, beautiful !
OK, I'm taking the C5 out on the road to cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to the bottom, then stop to see a friend in Orlando, back on the road to Nashville, up 59 to the bowling Green Factory and the museum, ( I didn't know the factory tours end Sept. 13) and lastly back up though the Kentucky turnpike to 66 and on to the beltway around Washington and finally RT.95 home. I have an original C5 factory mask but I was leaning toward a nylon mask with perhaps a beach towel sewn in a few places to hold it in place. What do think will do the OK, The heavy original or the lightweight nylon ?. Thank you :w

I can't help with your question about nose protection. . . but if you're anywhere near the Tail of the Dragon. . . you've got to drive it on your way to Kentucky! :_rock

See the thread here: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com...-what-some-our-cac-activities.html#post867595

Be sure to check out the link in that post to a video I made of photos compiled from a past CAC-SE region get-together.

It's 118 curves in 11 miles on the TN-NC border. And it's not about speed - speed will get you wrecked fast! It's the curves and the way it feels to drive them in a CORVETTE. . . Nirvana!!

Here's the official website for more info and I'll be glad to answer any questions I can: Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, motorcycle and sport car two lane tourism serving Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner28, Devils Triangle, and Six Gap North Georgia.

Maps: Tail of the Dragon Road Maps for motorcycle and sport car two lane tourism serving Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner28, and Devils Triangle.

And even if you decide not to do the Dragon, take lots of pix!!!

I can't speak of the nylon bras, but I have used Speed Lingerie bras on several Corvettes. Although very good way to protect the front ends of our Corvettes, I now have an "invisible bra" on both of the ones we have. The one good thing about them is the fact that they are practically invisible, and the other good thing is that the car is protected 100% of the time. We only used the Speed Lingerie when we went on long trips, so protection wasn't 100% of the time.

I've had the invisible, clear bra on my '05 for more than 5 years and 23,000 miles. The car still looks great! I'd go for one of those.

The original GM bra is perfect. Cost is around $90. You take it off if it gets wet. It will protect against stones and big bugs. Put a good coat of wax on the front end before the trip and stretch it on for a couple of days before you go; it's a bugger to put on, but it's nice and tight and does not flap at speed. Enjoy your ride.

The Blur ridge parkway and the Tail ?

Thank you Jane Ann, I found the northern start of the BRP at just off VI RT.66 at Front Royal Vi. and I'll print out the map listed here. I want to do the whole shindig in a relaxed manner so I can enjoy it all. I have read that the "Tail of the Dragon" is enjoyable if done on a weekend, Is that the consensus of the group of Friends here ? This is a question that I would really enjoy a reply from all of you who have experienced it your selfs or have first hand experience. And Thank you guys rock ! I've taken such good care of my 2003 and now I find myself unable to figure out how to travel in it. Thank you All :w

I was just up there about a month ago. Definitely worth going to if you are anywhere near the area. Its a blast to drive, though it is hard to predict the crowds, or the cops. We were able to run pretty aggressively coming out of the turns, which is where the fun is. The wife was a little white knuckled.

I was reading on the website that the crowds have dwindled as summer winds down so it could be a good run at anytime. I would think only Labor Day weekend would be the remaining "busy" time. That website is also a good resource for weather reports, accidents, or any heavy traffic or incidents which may slow you down.

Also, keep in mind there are photographers who set up and take photos of the cars that pass, then post them on their websites so that drivers can find theirs and order copies. The photos in my signature are from 4 different Dragon runs. Here's a thread in which I posted links to those I know about: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/southeast/94972-links-tail-dragon-photographers.html

Have fun and share pix!!

Stretch bras are OK for bugs, rocks, not-so-much. They're sure better than nothing.

I had a GM mask on my C5 vert and it worked very well. Once the original install was done it was easy to install and protected the car from most debris. Couldn't beat the price either... pity they don't make one for my '10 GS.

Hay GMJunkie,
I'm just south of Philadelphia, and plan on taking the PA turnpike to 81 south to the exit for Front Royal VA. BRP . . . It begines at Front Royal, VA and has a dogleg about ten miles southwest of Ashevill, NC ! Thank You !

Front end mask ?

Well I've throught this over and I think that since I have a GM C5 front mask I'm going to installed the hardware/fasteners, Wash the car and sice it's still pretty hot up here, put the mask out in the sun to loosen up and then install it and just leave it till I leave forVA / NC.

So pretty soon . . . :w
