Well GM has done it again. I have a 2000 with A/T and just talked with them about the recall for the steering lock. I have had the problem with the lock and when I asked about the recall all they say is that my car is not part of the recall. The Rep. then told me just to get it fixed and pay for it. I did get a call back from GM about 15 Mins later and they said if it did lock up and the dealer saw the problem they might pay for it. I can't believe it the car is right in the middle of the years for the recall and has had problems and all they can say is to fix it youself. I guess GM does not want me to but another car from them.

They should let you use a 2005 Loaner Vette while repairing their screw-up!

It would be nice if they would give me something for the trouble.

c5 Steering Column Lock Recall- Good News!

I, too had the Steering Column lock on my 2000 c5 Man Trans car last August - 2 months after warranty expired. After arm wrestling the dealer,(Morehart Chev Durango CO) towing my car into them, telling them which corrective part to order and giving them my car and over 500.00 after 3 days- I raised hell with exec GM in Michigan who deferred it to the regional supervisor who again turned me down for recompense.Seems my car's VIN was not a covered num. in the previous "campaign"..To hear the dealer service rep smugly tell me that AGAIN this April after the CAF notification of a recall involving all man Trans C-5 Vettes just ****ed me off AGAIN, when I mentioned the recall to them and that I would like direction as to how to get my prev $$$ back...Well I fired off an email to the mentioned GM contact and a voice mail citing my prev Complaint case ## and lo and behold , I got a cal from a nice lady in the GM exec offices saying they would re imburse me- FINALLY!!Hopefully they will treat all others the same way. I had to provide a valid Car Registartion document, a original repair bill and a copy of my payment receipt. Hope this helps!!! :cool

Thanks for the information. It is realy nice to get feedback from others who have had the problem and how it worked out for them.
