Has anyone used this latest 260 sqin intake from Jim Hall? Anyone seen it priced below $399.00 [SSM LS1 Stinger] I ask Jim Hall how it compared to the Trap and he said "I don't sell that any longer so it is a moot point, the new SSM is the fastest intake out there" not too helpful.

Jim Hall answering service said that the new SSM LS1 Stinger $399.00 blows the old Stinger out of the water $239.00 but have not heard anyone comment on them. Just looking at the pictures you can see the 260 sqin filter is about one third larger. I was trying to get Jim Hall's office to define the difference in performance between the two but they just talked in generalities.

"But they just talked in generalities" Thats a Scarey senario ! I would get the one for $239.00 and the heck with them Sorry:). Its easy to say great thing about a new product but there has to be evidence if its that much better. They should elaborate on findings I think there blowing smoke just my .02 cents Don't you think so?
Ps: Here is there own ad for the $239 Model:

The Halltech Stinger Intake System is one of the best performance upgrades available for the 1997-2004 C5 and Z06 Corvette. Our air filter and the tunnel bridge (or power duct) increases airflow by 25 % over stock, and replaces the stock air bridge, which is the most restrictive part of the C5/Z06 intake system. With our 100 mm straight shot at the throttle body and 15% more plenum volume, coupled with the largest filter ever made for the C5/Z06, you will feel the power. This system is designed for simple installation at the end of the MAF and throttle body. No cutting, modifying or lift required and just 15 minutes to install. Kit comes with instructions and carries a lifetime warranty. Ease of installation and cost, make this one of the most popular Corvette intakes ever.

So.... what to purchase? If you were treating yourself to a little Christmas gift, and not wanting to spend more than around $300-$350 (so the Honker is too expensive), do I buy the Vararam, the Blackwing, or the Halltech Stinger? The Vararam is the priciest, but also makes (supposedly) significantly more power than the Blackwing. Where does the Stinger fit in? Any objective comparisons out there?

Vararam is a fair wheather intake and not a option in my case, I want to be able to drive in the rain should I get caught in it.

Hi, I think Best bang for the Buck is the Halltec stinger at $239.00

I have a VaraRam and drive it in the rain quite often. Deep puddles and very large splashes could be a problem, but even heavy rain has not been an issue at all. The cases of water ingestion that I have heard about involve putting the nose of the car into deep standing water.

Are there any "shootouts" out there, preferably using same Vette, same dyno, on the same day, with all other factors remaining as equal as is reasonably possible (ambient temp, humidity, etc.), except for switching intakes?

I also use the Vararam and have been very pleased with its performance. As for a comparison Randy, a member here, posted about comparing his vette with a blackwing versus driving someone else's with a vararam and he said he could feel the increase in power. I'll try to see if I can find his post.

I saw one in a magazine a couple of years ago. It was Vette, Corvette Fever, or Corvette Enthusiast- I am not sure. It compared stock, VaraRam, and one or two others (Blackwing? Vortex Rammer?). The VaraRam was the clear winner.

Here's a comparison of the top-2 non-CAI:
"Halltech Stinger SSM was right there with the LPE. I had a stock PCM put in the car by the dealer yesterday. With absolutely no tuning both the LPE and Halltech were right at 375 RWHP and torque. There was barely 1 HP difference." -Andy Green, A&A Corvette
