c6 clutch

they then replied to my question if they had greased it that, "there are no zerks on these cars".

I've never been back even though they sold out after over 50 years as a dealer. :eyerole

just passin on a piece of information that is not widely known.......IF you have a Z51 car there ARE 2 zerk fittings on the rear suspension (one on each side) :thumb

And where might one find these two zerks?
Lower ball joints?
Upper ball joints?
Control arm bushings?

rear toe link, bottom end, fitting faces forward..........and it's on the Z06 as well :w

Hi there,

Z51 is the OUTER TIE RODS.

And the RANGER method of removing fluid does NOTHING for your slave cylinder fluid. You cannot override gravity to get the fluid out of the slave cylinder.

In most cases, you are simply cycling the slave back and forth, cleaning the support that the slave/throwout sits on and lubricating the seal within the master with fresh fluid. Thats why it seems to make a difference.

We did a test 3 years ago doing this Ranger method and when it was done as per the post, we still obtained 11ml of clutch fluid that was contaminated from the slave cylinder when bleeding the correct way.

You will help your cause, but you will NOT repair it.

Mine was built in Sept. 2004 and the zerks point down, must have been an ECN. What are you doing reading the owners manual? :) My point is that a dealer that has the car on a lift doing a lube and oil change should be doing more than pulling the plug and refilling the engine. OK, they do wipe the dust off the dash a put the silly advertising mats on the floor but get real. They should have enough automotive sense to look for anything abnormal under the car, like a grease zerk, most owner don't or cant. Lube the hinges on doors, hood, and hatch, check all fluid level as required, check safety equipment and lights. In other words service the car, not just the profit picture and see how many people come back for good service.

What seems to happen is to sell the 5/8 ounce (yeah, like they measured that) brake fluid so they can add an EPA disposal charge to the bill for an additional fluid handled.

What you speak of here is true, Paul. However, doing the "syringe the M/C and fill with fresh fluid" doesn't hurt, AND it causes the owner to inspect other things whilst there. This, I feel, is a good thing. It only puts off the inevitable (wear to failure) but it does seem to help. (It's been working for 5 yrs, 6 mos (48885mi) for me.) I'll keep doing it as I haven't had a stuck pedal yet.
