c6 interior door handles

Take a close look at the interior shots of the c6. the door panels don’t have door handles. Just two switches (I’m guessing windows and locks) and what appears to be a button. I guess the doors are electronic both inside and out. Touch pad activated from the outside and pushbutton activated from the inside.

Anybody know for sure ??

Yes, that is the case. The push-bottons on the inside and outside trigger a solenoid that opens the door.

If the batter or electrical system fails there is a hidden lock under the rear of the car where a key can be used to open the hatch. Inside are two manual pull cables that open the driver's door and fuel filler door.

Question arises on how this system works when the car is submerged? What other situations may arise where an electrically actuated door might pose a danger?

The car shows that I've been to don't have batteries hooked up. This means you won't be able to open the cars at shows.

All in all I think it makes the passenger side door easier to open for those that are right handed and are opening the door with their left hand. Will have a better feel for this when I see a car.

Hib's article said it was up under the license plate. I assume it would be fairly easy to get to without crawling on the ground. Looking at pics it's probably just under the lip over the license plate.

There is also an auxilary door release inside the car, on the drivers side, next to the seat.

so what if your screwdriver to remove the liscense plate is also locked in the car???

In a nutshell, to get in the car if the battery is dead or disconected, you insert the key into hidden lock behind and below the license plate. I observed this operation at the 12/18 preview and it was not required to remove the license plate.

Turn the key and the hatch pops. Open the hatch and you'll find, on the rear of the left rear wheel well, two pull cables. Once opens the driver's door. The other opens the gas filler door.

Once you've got the driver's door open, you can pull the hood release but the passenger's door remains closed until you can get electrical power.

Separate but related - I thought I had read that the hatch would [electronically unlatch and raise] and [electronically lower and latch]. Some one posted the other day that it closes with the same "clunk" sound as the C5 (their comparison - not mine). What's the real skinny Hib?

I did not actually work the hatch myself but I stood by while someone else did. I suppose, if you didn't know that pull-down was now electric and you slammed the hatch like before, it might make a similar noise. The right way is to gently push the hatch until the pull down catches it, then stop pushing. The electric motor pulls it tight and latches it.
