C6 Keyless operation - smart?

C6 fob

Great article, but scary for all C6 Corvette owners. Only a matter of time. I wish they would go back to using a key.Save the Wave.George

Hi there,
Very interesting.
However, I would be very curious as to why they used a primative system like the Ford Escape and not something like the Acura, Lexus, BMW or Corvette.
Because it is alot different in function and form. The transponder that they speak of is very similar to the Passkey 3 system in Venture.
I am sure, with time, anything can be hacked, but I do consider the possibility that others in engineering have thought of this.

Someone with a few thousand dollars worth of computer equipment and some time can hack some electronic locks. Someone with a few dollars worth of tools can get through key locks in much less time. I'll still take my chances on the electronics.

A sufficiently determined thief can steal any car out there. That's why we carry insurance.

But it still takes some skill and time to enter a car with lock picking tools.
Then there is the matter of bypassing the starting mechanism.

Once the crack has been developed, it will disseminate downward to the less sophisticated theif, allowing them just enter the car in less than a second, and without rousing any suspicion.

Someone trying to pick a lock will be very suspicious looking, someone walking up to a car, pushing a button on a device, entering the car, starting it and driving away in less than 2 seconds will draw NO attention.

I think the keyless is great............what difference does it make if the key hangs and scratches from your steering column or is in your pocket?.......you still have to have it with you???? and your still gonna have all the computers and electronics on all new cars and more and more cars are going to keyless ignition.....I think it's a great Idea and GM seems to have figured out all the possibilities in the event of FOB or battery failure.........so what's the big deal?? just my 2 cents!!
