I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that GM may go with a 6.0L V8 for the Z06? If they stick with a 6.0L V8 with a 6-speed, they will not have to re-rate the car for EPA economy numbers. This will help GM with CAFE, and prevent any need for a guzzler tax.

If they go with a 7.0L (or any other size), they will have to re-rate it. I suspect the C5 Z06 would have been hit with the tax if it had been rated, at least from what I've heard about real-world mileage from them.

Anyone think this will be a factor?

Honestly, I thought it was cool they got 405 hp from a 347 ci motor. I think a 450-475hp 6.0L that revved closer to 7,000 would be pretty sweet in a Z06. Sort of more finessey than just going with huge displacement, though 6.0L is hardly small. Curious about anyone's thoughts. :)

I could be mistaken but I thought Dave Hill stated its a 7 liter motor (in the Z06 C6)

I think the C6 Z06 will have a 7 liter motor..

I think the sub 3000 curb weight will help meet fuel economy standards.

You'll get a 427 that is dry-sumped and will rev to 7000 rpm. The three-valve head did not make production. Two valves per cylinder with 2.20-in. intake valves.

Whether or not the car will clear guzzler is unknown at this point. GM has yet to release the CAFE numbers for the LS7.

He stated this definitively? In what speech or interview?

I don't think the curb weight will matter much for economy ratings. 3100 lbs or 2900 lbs won't really make a difference, especially not for highway numbers. I was surprised GM allowed the GTO to pay a guzzler tax, now the 2005 CTS does, so perhaps they are more relaxed about this than they used to be.

As far as I'm aware, they've yet to release any numbers at all for the C6 Z06. It's all speculation. As is this. But I think it's reasonable speculation that a 7.0L engine will pay a guzzler tax. :)

Thanks Hib. On this and other forums, I have read so many experts project the future, with definitive statements that later turn out to be "not so accurate." Everything you have reported has been truthful, accurate and later verified by reality. Consequently, your threads are greatly appreciated and valued.

Ford GT? Ferrari F430? Lamborghini Gallardo? Porsche 911? Lamborghini Murcielago?

Bring 'em on! :r :D ;)

how will they use a PCV system on the dry sump system? the tank will need to be vented to the atmosphire to expell the air from the pump.

I'm not trying to bring politics into this but wasn't the gas guzzler tax signed in for a set number of years and it was set to expire soon?

Aerodynamics would play a big role in getting good gas mileage. The thing that I always applauded Corvette production for is that their solution to making a car quicker/faster wasn't always to just put a bigger motor in the car. They actually engineered other things such as suspension and intakes and curb weight and all that fancy stuff I don't know anything about to get a quicker/faster car.

Edmond, that was the luxury tax which I believe has already expired.

Okay, that's what I was thinking of. But Corvette's were exempt from the luxury tax, right?

Not on new car purchases. It was dependant on the total cost of the car which the Corvette typically exceeded the amount of $40,000 which was the basis for the tax, at least for 2002. Now that it's gone there's no more worry about that. :D

Where did you read the word "definitely" in the statments...?

no thanks to the liberals is it gone. they are the ones that want to tax the "RICH" and caused a lot of boat builders here in the US to go belly up because the rich just bought their boats overseas. i did not have that option when i bought my C-5s and had to pay the tax. remember if you could afford a corvette back then you were "RICH" remember john kerrys wife only paid 12% income tax on her income, what did you pay??? tax the rich,BS by the liberals to fool the great unwashed that follow them.

What type of mileage can we expect from our new monster?:D
Who cares.

When one buys a Ferrari or a Viper, or a Porsche 911, does one really care about gas mileage? :D ;)

Do you know why the three-valve head did not make production? Was it technical, or simply because it was not needed because they achieved the power they wanted through two valves?

Thanks,

Ken

The funny thing about GM is I bet amazing gas mileage too boot..

No matter what...the cars performance will be utterly amazing..

Acceleration/top speed/handling/braking

Another month or so and we'll know for sure.
