More on C7 Tail lights
That is true, and another way of saying what you just did, is that for more than fifty years, since the 1961 tail end redesign, Corvettes have had four round tail lights, two and two. That is part of the iconography of the car. Four round tail lights are something that 1) makes any Corvette instantly recognizable and unique from any other car, and 2) provided a half century of continuity over the C2, C3, C4, C5 and C6 generations of the car. For that half century, Chevrolet did a fine job of updating and modernizing and improving the car, while consistently keeping the design cues (general swoopy aerodynamic 1964 Mako Shark shape (C3s and beyond), hide away/retractable headlights, and of course, FOUR ROUND TAIL LIGHTS!)
Now, whether by assigning people to lead the C7 design who are not Corvette people, or by a desire to make the car look less unique and more like part of the Chevrolet family, or just to create controversy and buzz, the New Corvette has elements of the New Coke marketing fiasco (change for the sake of change). Hopefully this will also end the way New Coke ended, with respect for long standing customers and a resumption of designing Corvettes to be new, yet respect more than half a century of tradition. With four round tail lights on the back end of the C7, at least as a factory option.
I appreciate the need to modernize the car, make it appeal to a new generation of buyers, etc., I would also appreciate if the people put in charge of redesigning and updating this American Institution would show at least some respect for the tradition and iconography of the car.
Making the tail end of the car look like a Camaro is upsetting to me on any number of levels. I hope Chevrolet will at least offer what I'm calling a Traditional One option, that would put four round tail lights on the back, and (admittedly a stretch here) offer a bottom breather front end without a visible grill and with retractable headlights.
Imagine the C7 if it were designed to be consistent with 50 years of Corvette design cues, modernized, but such traditions respected.
Wow, now that would be a New Corvette. Not a Corvmaro or Camaravette as the C7 currently looks to be.
New Coke was a marketing blunder for Coca Cola. They had the good sense to listen to their customers and bring back Coke Classic.
I hope Chevrolet has the good sense to respect those of us who actually buy Corvettes, and give the C7 a proper Corvette appearance, 360 around and in the car.
The 1953 to 1960 Corvette's had different types of tail lights than the traditional round ones and they were single lights on each side
