i have a 92 automatic stock LT1..
i have decided to hot rod it up a bit..
i have always said the gear is the most important thing in street performance..
this is the advise i have received from every professional mechenic that i have spoken to..
they all say 3:50's are cool and 3:75's too low geared..
well....lets put the old slide ruler to this test
the turbo 700R4 and the 4L60 have the same gears and go like this

1st = 3.06
2nd = 1.63
3rd = 1
4th = .7
so...here is the math at 5000 rpm's

with 3:75 ring gear and with 3:50 gears..

1st =34mph ...... 36mph

2nd= 64mph ...... 68mph

3rd = 105mph ...... 112mph

4th = 150mph ...... 160mph

i am shocked at the little difference between the two...
of course this on paper..and usually numbers dont lie but that doesnt mean i didnt make a mistake(i am not yet perfected)
to me this is no brainer...3:75's will do nicely..not so low as to eliminate 1st gear and low enough to show a clean ass to most newer more perfected american sports cars..
and perhaps this lesson in humility will also spread into their personal life and they will indeed wave at the next C4 they see..and perhaps even , have a little more respect for their elders...
amen:w:cool
:lou:lou

and here is ..
stock 2:49 and 3:00( whatever that one was) at 5000 rpm

1st = 51mph ......43mph

2nd = 96mph ...... 80mph

3rd = 156mph ...... 129mph

4th = 225mph ...... 185mph

serious difference..
if had a flux capacitor i might could top end with stock gears..lol
otherwise..its a waste
