Can they be cleaned? The one I have is getting a bit dirty. I know they have some sort of polish on them but can I wash mine?
Thanks.

Hi
Yes, you can wash it with Woolite and let it air dry.

The dirtier it gets, the better it works. Personally, I wouldn't wash it. It's best to spend the 10 bucks and buy a new one (IMHO). As long as you keep it stored in the bag (it keeps it from drying out) it should last a few years (e.g. 2-3+ yrs.). Check to see if it is still oiled before you wash/get rid of it.

I agree,if you wash it you will probably wash the oils out of it that make it pick up the dust.

You guys are correct. I washed it as per Kingman's suggestion and I wouldn't use it on my car now. It dried out. Time for a new one.

You might want to consider taking it (them) to a cleaning supply place and see how much they would charge you to have it cleaned and retreated with that paraffin wax solution that is what comes from the factory.

I got mine done like that and it only cost 5 bucks and they are as good as new for a couple more years. Speaking of "New", the ones that are out there now are a lot cheaper constructed than the original ones.....smaller and far fewer strands.

Don't wash them in the sink and especially NOT in the washing machine, as that wax stuff on them will line the washer or sink with a film that is virtually impossible to remove and when the "wife" finds out what you did........remember, a vette is not too comfortable to sleep in. :)

No matter what I've done to mine, following instructions. They streak my car, even when the finish is cold.
I give up.

Tony, the surface should be neither too cool nor too warm - it should be just right. :L

Don't use too hot of water or you could soften the Parafin wax that coats the tassles.

Ask your moms. They probably have the same old dust rag they've used for years (likely Dad's old T-shirt). Same concept with the CA Duster.... use it, shake it out, use it again. Don't wash it... when it gets to the point where the duster doesn't attract dust, get rid of it (unlike a dust rag that you'd rejuvinate with Pledge). If you wash it, you're washing all of the oils/wax out of it... kinda defeats the purpose.

After reading about it here I just bought one at Walmart. It works great, best $9.99 I ever spent. Only takes a couple minutes to go over the whole car.
