What types of Gasoline do you have in California? Like premium, we have 87,89,91 and 93 Octane here in PA, but it's blended with 10% ethanol. I assume you have a blended version, what kind ? and how much ? If above 10% is it have any ill effects on your engine? Thanks for any info is welcome. :beer

California has RFG (Reformulated gasoline.)
It is mandated by C.A.R.B (Calif Air Resources Board.)
It contains 10% Ethyl alcohol (ethanol.)
Our octane ratings are : 87 & 91 RON (Reserch Octane number)

89 is a blend of the other octanes. (60% 87 & 40% 91)

We have the same grades available in SC, however, we do have a couple of stations in the Greenville area that advertise "No Ethanol" but charge a higher price. They claim better fuel mileage but I've yet to see it!

Gasoline grades and emissions !

Here in Pennsylvania, we have emissions inspections on the western side of the state and the Eastern side, but in the middle and up in the mountains, there isn't a requirement for emissions check as the population is pretty sparse. I'm not sure that here on the east coast, whether any gasoline is produced without the 10% ethanol in it. Even if it is going to be sold up in the mountains. I understand the EPA is going to increase the amount of ethanol from 10% to 15% in the near future.

Currently, the limit for ethanol is 10% but most refiners are using 7-8%.

The Obama Administration want's to raise that limit to 15% as a political move to please the hardcore environmentalists and the ethanol lobby, however, there might be some problems with that, especially with older vehicles.

Hopefully, the Government will leave the limit along or...perish the thought!...eliminate RFG as, for the most part, today, oxygenated fuels are a solution looking for a problem.
