CALLAWAY DESIGN Nameplate Placement

When I first looked at 87-027 it was obvious "something" was removed from the right rear rub molding. This car was the first TTC I had seen in person, so I didn't know what was missing. I mentioned it to the seller but did not get a good answer. The next time I went to look at the car (after checking the VIN# with Joanne - Callaway Forum advise!), the molding had been replaced. I just received a new CALLAWAY DESIGN nameplate from CALLAWAY CARS, but do not know if it sticks onto the molding or if the molding is cutout and the nameplate recessed. Chris has been very helpful with a picture, but it does not show clearly enough how to attach. He will get the answer for me but I am dying to "get 'er done". Thanks, Jerry

Yes...the one picture (even tho' a bit blurred), clearly indicates the molding is notched. That should be fun! Time to quit playing on the computer and do something productive.

I think you're mistaken. The picture to me looks like the emblem is glued right on the rub strip so I checked my '87 to be sure. It is definitely glued to the top of the rub strip with no nothching. HTH.

Tim, I am glad someone w/ an 87 chimed in - it had been awhile since I saw the car in the pic. and by the way it looks, it seems "notched" :confused

You say yours sits flat on it - no notching, can you get a pic??

Hello Tim...thanks for your contribution. Looking at the pics again (the more clear one) it does appear to set on top of the strip. If you own one, surely that is evidence enough for me. I have not installed it yet - waiting to get clear direction. All of the early Callaway badges looked very "add on", but they have done a great job protecting from easy clonning.

The CALLAWAY name plate is notched into the molding on my #149. I will take a look at it this evening and take some measurements as to the depth and width of the cutout and re-post. Thanks for posting your question on THE forum. -Joe

The notch is 1\16" deep and the lenght of the plate. I hope this helps!

My apologies to those that said the rub strip is notched. The pics I took indeed show the strip is notched slightly. I can only see it when I look at the photos. The notching is not deep enough to leave the emblem flush. It doesn't look inset at all, but obviously is. You can see the pics I took here.

Thanks to everyone for thte help. I feel I have enough info to mount my plate and the slight notching (1/16") would correspond with the appearance of the rub strip when I first looked at the car [and the plate was missing]. Great looking cars MAGIC DRAGON and TAC. Thanks again to all! Jerry

The pics I had posted were actually crops of other pictures I had taken and that might be why the inset was a bit tricky to see :confused

Help like yours is why this place is such a benefit!

This has been the most difficult "easy project" I have ever under-taken. It had to look good and correct. Finally tackled it and got it done today. Looks great! Thanks to everyone for their inputs.
