Callaway Competition Selected to Prepare 6 Z06.R Race Cars for European Teams

Callaway Competition of Leingarten, Germany, was selected to prepare six Z06.R race cars for the new FIA GT3 European Championship Series, campaigned by Team Riverside of France and Carsport Holland. This innovative new racing series will commence for the 2006 season at selected European race tracks.

In this series, race teams will enter world-class sports cars prepared for competition by vehicle manufacturers or engineering companies. The racers will compete against each other, within the same marque, for "mini-cups". At the same time, the teams will be racing against the other marques entered. So there will be "single-make" podium positions as well as FIA GT3 European Championship trophies for the overall podium finishes, culminating in a "Cup of Cups" award. Corvette racers will be racing among themselves as well as against the fastest sports cars in the world.
The race cars include the Ascari KZ1R, Aston Martin DBRS9, Corvette Z06R GT3, Dodge Viper, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lotus Exige, Maserati Gran Sport Light, Nissan 350Z, Porsche 997 and the Venturi Heritage.
The current 2006 race schedule:
May 7 Silverstone, Great Britain
July 2 Oschersleben, Germany
July 30 Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium
Sept 3 Magny-Cours, France
Sept 17 Imola, Italy

What? No Backup Lights? Is that legal? Those would be some fun races to go see. Looks like they have added a lot to keep that Z06 stuck to the ground and not lift off. I wonder what mods they did to the engien? Any information on the engine? Or for that fact any other mods they did to the Z06?

I'll try to attend the Spa Francochamps race!
It's one of the best circuits in the world and only a 90 minutes drive from here.

Here is the intial Spec sheet on the Z06-R. Some of the items have changed. Ernst informed me that they are having to widen the rear of the car to accommidate the wheel/tire combo. The 3 Z06-R's that are going to the French team are going to be white/white and recent testing at Hockenheim were superb...

Just completed last week is the first of many Callaway Z06-R GT3's
First one is on the way to Germany as we speak...to Ernst at Callaway Competition. Second one is for my generous sponsor. I have the molds and patterns complete and can put one out in about 2-3 weeks.

If you look at the results, you need to be reminded that the C6 Vette is a completely new car and team. The Viper, Aston and Lambo have been in development for several years. With this in mind, the Z06-R is performing well. Here are some photos from the test session at Paul Richard. Note: the rear fenders of the Z06-R needed to be modified to fit the spec tire. Thinking about what this development means to you, guess where the carbon fiber fenders and other nifty C6 performance parts will be coming from.
