I was curious if my fellow C4 owners were given a choice between a Callaway or a ZR1, "Which one would they choose and why?"

That is kind of a difficult one. I would say it depends on what you are looking for. I really liked my Z’s and that is what I wanted at the time, reliable power that could be serviced at most GM places. I also bought the extended GM warranty when I bought mine and I think it was almost $2K. I like the 91 to 96 dash and body style but my favorite is the aero convertible. So to the point now it would be a Callaway Aero convertible auto with the 90 to 96 dash.

Callaway ZR-1 is the "E" ticket ride!! I have seen a couple and they are awesome.

I would buy a Callaway as you can modify it with OEM Callaway parts and still have a "stock" or pure Callaway. You start with the engine, then you can choose the body kit, or coil overs, or rims, etc... and its all Callaway. Performing those same mods on a ZR-1 you just have a another modified corvette.

Same goes for the engine, Callaway can do some amazing things with the horsepower and its still stock Callaway. You start mod'ing the ZR-1 and you have people questioning all aspects of the mods.

That's always been a tough question but since my 1st Grand National back in 1987 I have been a fan of forced induction, so I will always prefer the B2K Callaway. It Gots Boost!

However, the black car in the picture is a Callaway ZR-1, very nice and very powerfull. Even better would be a Callaway Twin Turbo ZR-1 Super Speedster ;worship

(Oops!... so the black car is a Twin Turbo - In my haste I somehow missed those scoops! in the specific case above I still go B2K, nice body, power, and boost)

Silver, BTW - the day you experience serious turbo boost, you will know what I am talking about. Natuarally aspirated power does not give you as much of an adrenalline rush as when those turbo's boost.

A few things I've noticed while shopping for both, is that there are a lot more ZR-1's out there to choose from. With about ~50 B2K's made per year in the later years of it, and most of those not being for sale, your choices are a lot more limited.

But ultimately they are two different philosophies to a high-performance Corvette. Which one you prefer probaby depends on what you will do with it, what you like from a motor, what your opinion is about collectibility, if you want to mod it, etc...

I will say from my brief experiences in both that there is nothing like that whoosh sound when the boost comes on and >500 lb-ft of torque starts churning. And there is nothing like hearing a 350ci V8 as it swings to its 7,200 rpm rev limiter. Both are pretty sweet. :v

I Have 3 Zr1's And 1 Callaway.the Callaway Is Faster Than A Stock Z.the Z On The Other Hand Is Really Maintenance Free.the Callaway You Need To Keep On Top Of Things.i Have More Problems With Hose Clamps Not Staying Tight.
Callaway Does Support Our Cars Thank Goodness Or We Would Be In A World Of Hurt.gm Has Moved On To Bigger And Better Things.
If I Had To Only Keep One I Would Stay With The Callaway.

These Callaways are truly a visual pleasure to see! I was parked next to the purple Callaway and it was shaking the buildings as it was parking next to my C4. Not only is it pretty, it is mean.

Psssst....that black car isn't a REAL Callaway. ;) Just has the body kit....the blister ducts are in the wrong location.

Whenever I took the photos I wondered about that. One of our local NCRS judges told the owner and he didn't seem too bothered. Thanks for the information.

CALLAWAY RULES. That poll gets taken at least once or twice a year. I love Corvettes and have owned 7 of those fantastic plastic rides. I chose both of the Callaways I've owned over the ZR-1 for several reasons, here they are in order.
1- lower production
2- I'm comfortable servicing the Chevy V8
3- I have all the tools to service the Chevy V8
4- ALL parts to service the Callaway are available (I've ordered parts overnight from them) I remember when the ZR-1 water pumps were on a several month backorder while still in production)- One big reason I didn't choose the ZR-1
5- I can call Callaway Cars and gets service information from an engineer the same day)
6- Callaway Cars customer service is unmatched (been working with them since 94)
7- The Callaway Twin Turbo's are VERY reliable (Between the 2 I haven't had a Callaway related breakdown)
8- The low end torque is great for tooling around town

I would love to own a ZR-1! There is alot to love about the ZR-1. I choose the CALLAWAY because owning one fits ME and what I want at a price I can afford. I also passed up a chance to own a Ferrari 328 GTS for some of the same reasons- I would love to own one of those as well. I LOVE ALL CORVETTES- but I own a CALLAWAY.
