Just remember this..... Torque wins races.... Horsepower sell cars in magazines, and impresses friends racing dyno sheets....
I understand about the power on these cars as most have issues and are VERY slow when the second owners get them, even slower when the 3rd-4th get them... My first callaway had 8000 miles... I thought it was perfect and the car really was in all aspects. It felt OK untill I raced it and got beat by a 79 TA.... Talk about giving callaway a good name, and I think this is the case in general with these cars....
I quickly learned that the biggest damage done to these cars are by the people that work on them and have no clue about them. Its kind of "gee I always wanted to work on a turbo" sendrome...
I learned the car like the back of my hand, as you will definatly have to to own one of these, found I had a typical boost leak, fixed it and then the car was a screamer... The first owner probably really sold because of this minor thing, only accelerated and worsend by the delership he took it to that messed it up even worse... This stuff makes all the difference in the world... This is a tue mechanics car... Thats a fact and if you are not inclined to work on it, its probably not the car for you.
The advice given above are the right things to do if you want this car to shine like it should... None are too hard to do but are probably a bit confusing for a first timer on these cars.
Wonderbar... If they are not avalible from Callaway, you can modify yours to work about the same.... The wonderbar is an Aboslute must and a major improvment on these cars Dont do a thing until you do this first.... Good exhaust, a must.... If you are looking for max power.... The cats have to go as all they are is an accident waiting to happen from heat damage.... Raised FP... Pretty much necessary, but a must past this... Boost set about 13-14PSI... The car will run hard with just the above done...Bigger runners and plenum are the final touches and are optional... They will increase your spool up, and your limited RPM range a bit while adding a small percentage of power. I dont remommend messsing with the TB. You will be very fast with this combo and wont have to redesign the car or touch the internals on an inherantly reliable engine.
I would not deviate beyond this above on the car unless you break it one day as this combo is reliable and fast... A small addition al race fuel mixed with your 93 to insure that you dont detonate, 12-14 PSI will get your roughly 500HP 700FT LBS to the wheels when tuned right and has a usable RPM of about 5500. Not much will hang with this short of a total race car... Those wont last long either... This will...

Has anyone performed any of the usual TPi 350 mods on their TT with worthwhile results? I mean (comparatively) easy external stuff like: runners, intake, larger throttle body, heads (like Edelbrock's performer heads) ignition mods.
What's the best route for moderate improvements? Maybe I'm getting fed up with people saying my estimated horsepower output is cr*p - 400 ish (StanA estimated my power at around 430 with no cats so that's what I tell people).
Funny thing is that my lame amount of horsepower never fails to absolutely blow thair doors off!!!
