Callaway Value

Hi guys just wondering what does it do to the value of a 1987 car to change the exhaust, interior to leather possibly upgrade the turbos from the ihi's. This car is fast now but every so often on decel you get a popping noise out the back. The custom exhaust is 3" front to back with high flow cats and two turbo mufflers. It is a real b2-k car with lots of paper work. Factory told me not to worry about the noise. Someone said I should install aftermarket blow off valves? Is this nessesary? Would these valves not look goofy? Love the car don't want to do something to hurt the value too much.

I would like to hear what others feel about this as well however, here is my take -

I would add megaphones from Callaway and let it sound as it should :cool The popping noises may be a result of the baffling inside the "turbo style" mufflers...

Changing the turbos may, or may not be a big deal however, adding the BOV's would be and on the one car that I saw w/ them, it ran poorly and took away from the otherwise clean looks of the car (underhood).

Thanks for the great reply. I am from Ontario. I removed the turbo mufflers and it still made the popping noise. I was told buy callaway that it was okay because the car was just breathing. The bigger exhaust made this car really fast. Before the exhaust the car was slow and quiet. May have been partially plugged cats. What year and colour was the car with the BOV's I might have seen that car in Carlise in 2004. Would you change your seat covers to leather? Chat later thanks again.

Changing the seat covers from cloth to leather ( to me ) is an upgrade. But I would keep the originals to give to the next owner. One thing to think about though is the cloth seats hang onto your clothing very well under heavy G-forces The popping noise... does it ONLY happen on de-acceleration? If so then it's fine, mine does the same thing. If not then you may need to look at a few things. My previous Callaway had some popping at times under slight acceleration or coasting, which turned out to be a worn out distributor drive gear. The worn gear caused fluctuations in the timing. Reeves helped me to resolve that trouble. A bad mass air flow sensor can cause funny things to happen and sometimes doesn't set a code. Keep us informed and good luck, -Joe

Thanks again for another great reply. It sounds like these cars are tempermantal. The turbo's with the new exhaust really spool up fast the map guage goes up to 54" and never more. What do you suggest I set the boost pressure to is this normal? The car has the 4+3 transmission.

The boost is fine where it is no need to change it . The popping sound is normal with a high flow exhaust.
