Did you purchase that manifold like that or did you polish it?

Nice job on the bird cage repair.

I ordered them from Sanderson, with the help of Rich Lagasse, ( had them shipped to his place :D ) and that's the way I received them. The coating is from the factory, but I'm sure it's included in the price.

As for the birdcage repair, thank you for your kind words. I must admit it's not an area that is particular fun to work on. The most difficult part was the round bended lip, that runs along the perimeter, and mates with the weatherstripping.

I don't have access to any factory jigs, nor their hydraulic presses, so I solved the problem by mig-welding a solid rod of the same diameter as the rounded edge, along the complete length of the repair.

The cutting, bending, and welding, of nine different metal sections was needed to complete the repair on each side. Once it is sanded out and primered, I doubt if the repair will be noticable.

I am sorry I meant the intake manifold.

Don't apologize, I mistakenly though you were referring to the " exhaust " manifold.

The intake is the polished aluminium offering from " Edelbrock ". It is a two plane, low rise ( for more hood clearance ) RPM Air-Gap.

In a recent " Chevy High Performance " article, http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/148_0406_572/index.html
by using this intake manifold, there was a noticable increase in torque, along with a lowering of the engine speed at which the maximum torque was achieved. This is the reason the motivated me to replace the factory hi-rise.

BLING BLING BLING.......I like it.....as I was looking at your photos, I saw a number of items that while not for a big block, I have exactly the same items for my 383 stroker.....BLING BLING!!!

Herb,

There is only two reasons people make these type of changes to their rides. The first is for go pedal, and the second is the " WOW" or bling, bling, factor. Modifieds " Rule " :D

what's the matter Bob, afraid that monster 572BB won't have enough torgue for you?
you want to shred those rear tires completely in 7 seconds rather than requiring 11 seconds to do so? ;LOL ;LOL

From what we have seen of your work so far, I don't believe any of us here are expecting this project of yours to be anything less than a complete work of art when you are done - not to mention a total monster on the road!
I look forward to keep seeing your progress reports. Not only because each one is interesting in it's own right to see the project move forward but personally there are very few posts of yours that I don't manage to learn something new and useful. :beer

Mark,

Funny you mention supercharger, because I am seriously considering , adding a " Procharger " http://www.procharger.com/chevy.shtml to my 572 build package.

Stepinwolf

Before you deside on Procharger...Vist the site where Corvette supercharging started. Greg Carroll is the Pioneer.. That's what 's in my 86. Everybodyelse has copied him .. Read about Gaseous Intercooling I think you might be interested in that.
My 86 Uses his kit with Gaseous Intercooling. The site is a little hard to naviagate on but it can be done.

Greg Carroll Is the owner.. The site is also listed as Blowerworks but comes up under http://www.carrollsupercharging.com/ Take some time and read about Gaseous Injection and the rest of his products. He has been around for about 20 some years in Corvette Suppercharging Business. Give him a call ..he will spend some time with you on the phone.
Vortech Procharger and all the rest copied his original kits.

One other thing...when you get to the site and load a page...look for the scroll bar for that page on the far right. Some how it is burried and hard to find. At least it is on my puter.

A much better way of approching Supercharging....:beer

You Know..... I just thought of something.... That means ..if you stay with a carb set up.. you'll need a Blow Thru set up supercharger.. I think the only people making that is Vortech Engineering. The carb is totally sealed in a special housing that the SC blowes into. Kit runs about $2500.00 or so but stil requires a lot of fab to make it fit. Including making your own brackets.

You other choice I think is to go to Edelbrock or Holley FI System.
Then you could adapt the SC to blow thru the top of the throttel body.

I think your going to have to research this. But... This sounds like a neat project ...Why.... Because I don't thing anyone has taken a 572 and Blower-Ized it in a Vette.. Sounds like my kind of engineering project.

Maybe I'll move to Canada and move in with Smith and Wesson and give you a hand..

Mark,

I have nothing at all to do with any police force, but I do have Smith & Wesson on 24 hour duty. Actually it's Mr. Smith and he weighs about 90 lbs, and not one of them is fat. Mrs Wesson , ( his Bîtch ) weighs in at about 75 lbs, but she is really something you would want to stay away from. If you happen to walk by too close to the house, she will actually try to eat the front window pane to try and get her point across to you.

Both Dobermans are 100% pure bread, from championship stock, The parents and grand parents were Canadian first place show champions.

However I still don't know what the " S " means in Bob's avatar. Maby I should sic the dogs on him, I'll bet he would tell me then ;LOL

Stepinwolf

Remind me never to get to close to your house......Better then a Real Smith & Wesson.......:ugh

Well you know Bob....Mr Mistry Man.... He'll spring it when the time is right. What ever T...F.... It is:cool

When ever your ready to move in, is good enough for me

Mark,

Thank's for the info, I have kept the addy in a " favorite's file " and will be looking at it very closely this evening.

I especially like the " Blower-Ized " expression, I will have to remember that one.

You are correct about the carb issue, I recieved an 850 " Speed Demon " with the purchase, but like a lot of other parts on the engine, I'm afraid it will not be of much use. I guess I will have to make up a complete list of the parts I will not be using on the 572.

I'll bet I will be able to help finance the purchase of quite a few extra parts with the money I can get by selling all of them off.

Yep... I have a small pile of parts my self from the 502... That I will dump down the road

. There are several choices for FI complete units. But keep in mind that you will need a Fuel return line back to the fuel tank when using FI. Or ..maybe you could adapt the Ram Jet Unit from the 502 to your 572 ..that might just require a Fuel injector up grade....Just throwing some food out for thought.

Any how I like the idea of the Vorteh under hood Supercharger for the 572.

It looks like you'll be building the induction system around the Blower....:beer
But You have to Admit...It does look good next to the motor..My 86

Any gear head would be turned on

Mark, great looking setup, bet it go's as good as it looks.

I mentioned I would not be using the Speed Demon, but I don't intend to go the FI route with the 572. I will have to source some other blow through type carb for my setup.
