Could someone tell me the difference between the base 327/300 hp engine and the 327/350hp engine. Is there a different cam or how else are the extra horses generated? What is the difference in the cam?

Not sure about the cam , but according to Dobbins book, it states the base engine a 300 h.p. 327 had 10:1 compression, while the L46 a 350 h.p. 327 had 11:1 compression. I'll check a couple of other books and see if they show what cam was used.

Since it shows hi-perf. cam for the 350 h.p. and nothing for the 300 h.p. , I would assume the cam was hotter in the 350 h.p. as well as higher compression. But maybe someone with a 327 will come along with some answers.

Well don't take my word as gospel but if I remember correctly...
cam
High compression
2.02/1.60 valves
intake
valve covers
Want to say different carb and forged crank vs cast???

Dave..

Basically the pistons (compression), the intake manifold (aluminum vs cast iron) and the cam are the performance differences.
The carb is the same: Holley 3810.
The cam in the 350 HP (L79) is a high lift hydraulic .447/.447" lift vs. .390/.410" lift.

The 300hp cam (3896929) has 195/202 duration @ .050", .390"/.410" lift, and a 116 LCA.

The 350hp cam (3863151) has 221/221 duration @ .050", .447"/.447" lift, and a 114 LCA.

Same carb, different intake, 350hp has higher compression (11:1 domed forged pistons vs. 10:1 flat cast pistons); all 327's had forged cranks, 350hp crank was drilled for a balancer bolt. 300hp had 1.94" valves, 350hp had 2.02" valves, both used the same valve springs (same head casting, different machining for the valve seats and unshrouding around the 2.02 intakes). Vacuum advance was also different - 300hp was fully deployed at 12" Hg., 350hp was fully deployed at 7" Hg.
