Cam removal

I'm doing my first engine build and managed to break a bolt off in my cam while installing the timing gear. My torque wrench obviously didn't click. I know rookie mistake.

I have a spare cam and decided to swap it. I tore off the intake, rockers, push rods and lifters. I'm trying to pull the cam and it hangs up after a couple inches. Did I miss something. I double checked and all 16 lifters are out. Do I have to remove the mechanical fuel pump? Do the lifters run the fuel pump or the camshaft?

You do need to remove the fuel pump to get the cam shaft out. (at least that's what the FSM for my 81 says, most small block c3s will be the same.

The actuator arm for the fuel pump operates from the front lobe on the cam. It will catch on the next lobe when you try to remove the cam. Please be very careful removing the cam so you do not drag the cam over the cam bearings and scar the bearings. If you do you will have to replace them and you need a special tool to do it.

It came right out after removing the fuel pump rod.
