Hello,

After several times and houres spent to get the windows right I just about had it right. But!
To begin from the beginning. Doors repainted put back in the car fit perfectly and also align perfectly with the surrounding body!
For the windows. With the doors closet I can get the window up till 1/2" from the top, there it's so deep into the rubber that is stops (passengers window I can get fully up). So I need to change the window setting and get them a little outboard.
Now with the door open, windows fully up I close the door and the window is getting in front of the blow out clip and not behind it. So in this situating I need to change the window and get it a little more inboard. Really this is not a 5 minute job but this is the best I have right now.

As far as I see it the blow out clip is the only problem, without it the window will slide in the rubber perfectly. So the question is, what will happen if I remove the blow out clip and not return it.
As the highways around here are 80mph and in Germany without a limit I don't want my windows to be sucked outboard or is that not possible?

I need to change them anyway as the rubber is from the blow out clips, I already have new ones and I also no in this way I need to change them again next year.

Greetings Peter

after working on my windows ,new seals and a new winder spring and lubing up the rollers and channels .it took a bit to get the window right .i just kept trying to adj the window back and forth and dont forget the top stop.if the window is hitting the metal clip its not right .taking out the clip is easy but you might not be happy later.loosen the two screws that hold the glass to the window channel .move it just a bit and tighten and check window.:beer

The two blow out clips are already out. Don't know what will happen on the highway but we'll see :)
Today has an afternoon to get the driversside window right. As the passengersside is already right that is a good example to copy for me.
The passengerswindow goes up a little inboard, but as it begins sliding on the rear seal it comes back forward to go around the inner clip. Right before the top it goes back in a little to close perfectly. With the window up I can close the door without a problem, also from the inside.

Now the drivers side. The problem it when I try the same, when the window is on the rear seal in the front the window will go to much to the outside, I tried correcting this by turning the forward rail inward (getting the window in the front to the outside) but it isn't enough. Fully closed I still have a opening about 1/4". With the window up I can close the door from the outside and the inside without a problem. Next time more luck :)

Greetings Peter

with the door open and the glass up does it move ?you may have some worn rollers and the glass could be loose on the window channel.my glass would move from front to back .that was when i found the front roller bad.

Hi Peter,

Yes that is possible and is sure to happen without the clips. Cabin pressure will push the door glass out at speed enough to stick your fingers out through the top. This was a common problem with GM cars of this era with damaged or broken off blow out clips, especially the 2 door models that had such a large door glass.

you have a no speed limit and a corvette .:upthumbs:cool!:

Yep, means we're being passed looking cool.. :L Unless mijn vriend has installed a Rocket Launcher in his 81, we are in the same boat and will get friendly waves and thumbs up :thumb when the modern cars go by us..

-just sayin.. ;)

Well, as I live 20 minutes above Antwerp (or below Rotterdam) I don't see Germany highways that often. But it sure is nice to drive and don't have all the idiots on the left lane. (we don't have the "keep your lane system" but slow traffic on the right, faster on the left.. in theorie...)

Btw. Without the blowout clips isn't a big problem till so far. Going 80mph (130 km/u) in the pooring rain and the windows didn't move and not a single drop entering the car. :) But I didn't test in Germany till now.

Greetings Peter
