problem . driving the other day the low coolant light came on car temp was normal . i pulled over and released the pressure cap(the system had pressure ) and found the system to be 1 qt low . went back to driving and it came on 80 miles later and found the same thing .? could the cap be faulty causing coolant not to be sucked back into the system ? yes there was coolant in the overflow in fact it was over the full mark

There is probly a cracked hose between the tank and coolant reservoir!! It will push it to the reservoir, but it sucks air and won't draw it back when it needs it!!:thumb

There are a couple of reasons why an engine "uses" coolant.

1) Faulty cap.
2) cracked block, head or bad head gasket

Couple of questions
1) Any signs of a leak?
2) Is the end of the overflow hose wet or dry?

Couple of suggestions

1) Test the cap and replace as necessary.
2) Pressure test the cooling system.

did a blue dye test that checks for combustion gases in the cooling system that turned out negitive . relaced the cap and taking her for a drive to see .

well finished putting headers on the callaway zr1 and had a buddy drive it to test her out against the 90 and found i do have a bad head gasket. guess i am going to learn how to time cams :ohnoes

how was he able to tell you have a bad gasket?

he wasnt able to tell .he was just driving the callaway . i took it for a 200 mile drive yesterday and after 150 miles the low coolant light came on . when i got home i pulled all the plugs and no8 has these little crystal on all 4 of the electrodes (bosch fusion plugs). tyhe plug didnt looked steamed though and the car never got hot at all. but i cannot find a leak anywhere the overflow tank doesnt rise , the water is going somewhere , i can only think that i have a head gasket problem , but believe me i am very open to any ideas you may have .

no i dont have anyone who has one .guess it might be time to buy one . where can one find one decently priced .
