Can tire pressure monitors be reprogrammed?

I just switched from the Goodyear runflats to Michelin Pilots and they are supposed to be inflated to 40 to 44 pounds, versus 28 for the runflats. This higher pressure causes the "high tire pressure" warning on my DIC. Can this be adjusted somehow for these new tires? Is the dealer able to flash the DIC and change this parameter?

I got the Pilot AS (all season tires) with a max pressure rating of 51 pounds (believe it or not)........I want to run a little higher pressure than the recommended 35 to 36 (cold), as it greatly improves steering response, and I drive a "little" aggressively. I did not get the high pressure warnings when I was running this cold pressure.

I've found that most tire manufacturer ratings are usually on the low side by a pound or four to favor ride over handling.............the question remains unanswered, however.........can the DIC be reprogrammed for pressure ratings??????????????

I'm in the same boat. Just switched to the Michelin PS/2's Don't want to run them any lower than 40psi. 40psi seems to be the trigger pressure for the DIC to start warning. I lowered the pressure the other day to 38, then of course the heated up...pressure went up to 41, then bam, message. A reprogram would be really nice considering I just purchased new pressure sensors also. Waste of money if their not adjustable. Great question....is there a flash (reprogram)?

I'm confussed-just ordered Michelin pilots as run flats,i assumed that they required the G.M specified 28 pounds as noted on door lable.Am i wrong?

I got the non runflats, as they ride so VERY much better and are very quiet. The runflats you have installed have sidewalls that are several times stiffer than the non runflats (and, I hear they weigh about 20 pounds more per tire!!), and probably you are running the right air pressure for them at 28 to 30 or so.............OK, guys....CAN THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORS BE RESET FOR HIGHER PRESSURE???????????.....are you out there C4/C5 guy?????

With a lot of people switching to non-runflats, this should be a common problem/issue. Anyone have an answer?

I've called both Chevrolet dealers here in my home town, and neither of them knew if this could be done or not........their first response was that it was not possible to tell the computer to recognize higher air pressure as normal.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. One of them offerred to call their tech center and at least ask the question.

I looked in the service manual and it does not show that the computer can be programmed to show High Pressure or Low pressure at different values. The pressure sensors in each tire report pressure from 0 to 62 PSI and they report at 10 to 15 mph. The preset values are FLAT TIRE-under 5PSI, HIGH PRESSURE-over 42PSI, LOW PRESSURE- 5 to 25PSI, NORMAL- 25 to 42PSI.

The only reprogramming mentioned is getting the on board computer to recognize the sensors and the tire they are monitoring.

This is for a 2000 Corvette, so its possible this may have been changed in 2001 or later.
