I just purchased an '89 coupe one Canadian owner Corvette with 88000 kilometers and I would like to convert it to miles. Can I have the odometer reset or replaced or does something else have to be recalibrated? Thanks!

I presume it would depend on state law, but in Oklahoma an odometer statement is not required on cars over 10 years old anyway. So IMHO if Fla. is the same, then I would just take it to a speedo shop or do it myself if I had the parts and could do the work. If you sell the car then you could simply describe the change in odometers with estimated mileage on the bill of sale.

Did you ever hear about the 89 Corvette Convertible that the FHP confiscated then later used for Highway patrol?? It was due to an odo. issue :eek

I am sure the car is no longer in service, as this was in the very early 90's
- Car had a lightbar on the factory hardtop

Don't the '89's have the "ENG/MET" button to switch between Km/Miles????
I think that may be just for the speedo. The odometer on an '89 isn't digital, is it?

Annie, the car is mileage exempt in Florida. Assuming it is now titled in Florida, there is a spot on the title for mileage. Was that section filled in as 88k miles and not km? If it was filled in then there is a record of the mileage even though you get the title back from the state saying "exempt" there is still a record of the mileage when purchased. Be very careful. The state comes down hard on odometer issues. I think you should probably contact someone at the Tiltle office before doing anything. Brian

Check with the DMV and see if there is a way to report a "corrected" odometer reading. If an odometer in a car that was less than 10 years old had to be replaced due to a failure, there should be some way of reporting that. Most states don't have a separate box to fill in for odometer readings in kilometers, they are usually reported in miles. You may have to convert the KM reading to miles (in this case divide the reading by 8 and then multiply that result by 5) and submit that value.
