Sometimes I can not get the key back to the neutral position so I can pull it out. I have to play with it with both hands, pushing in the tab and turning with the other until it eventually cooperates. It seems like it is pressure sensitive. I lubed it when I had the door lock problem but it still gives me fits.

Any sugguestions?

This an automatic?

Well, with some GM automatics, there's a solenoid contact in the shifter linkage, that energizes the solenoid switch in the steering column. People grub in their cars,

, and get food jam in places it don't belong, and contacts get dirty and grubby.

I don't know how the solenoid switch is configured in a stick, and that might not even be the problem...

Your not supposed to be able to get the key out in gear on a 6 speed ????

Have no idea how that could work. I think you have a cyl-lock problem.

On an automatic, parked, off, in neutral, if you disconnect the battery, the key is there to stay.

I don't know how a stick is wired...
