My 82 vette starts, but I cannot keep it running without pumping the accelerator. Changed the MAP sensor, and temp. cooling sensor, but with no luck. The car does not idle enough to even put into gear. Any suggestions where to look next?

Hmmm...I don't really know, but it kind of sounds like there might be something wrong with the carb. Maybe the throttle is stuck? You might want to try to find a high friction part in the carb and blast it with a little WD40.

But like I said, I'm not really sure. Wait until another Vetter chimes in to give their opinion. :)

Good luck!! :)

do you have any codes?
might want to check that out first.

TR, 82's are fuel injected (Cross-Fire Injection)...just FYI. :)

Joe, take the air cleaner off and make sure both injectors are spraying fuel. The symptoms you describe are precisely what will happen if one of the injectors is not working. If only one is spraying then check the injector fuses, of course if one is blown then you'll have to track down why that happened. You could also have a blown injector driver in the ECM, that's happened before. Also make sure that they're spraying a nice conical pattern, and not just "splattering" fuel everywhere.

Good luck with it,

Bill

Arg!!!!!!! :D I knew that 82s have the cross fire. It just didn't register. Ooopsies. :)

Dont know much about 82's but know a little about EFI.

Does it have a TPS (throttle position sensor)? Id check that.

Also dirty O2 sensors can cause a car to run real rough, you can kind of clean them by letting the car warm up and then reving to about 3000 rpm an holding there for a few minutes.

Just takin a shot in the dark.

Good luck,
J.

I had 78 Blazer that acted exactly the way you describe, would start but not run, stall when you put a load (into gear) on it. The fuel filter that screws into the carb was almost completely plugged. I'm not sure where your filter is but it's a quick cheap fix and well worth checking out.
