The car is a stock '88 coupe, 4+3 tranny, clutch is about 3 years old.
During a short 5 mi. trip yesterday I noticed a high pitched grind/whine in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. 4th was fine. By the time I returned home, I could not shift into 1st or 2nd gear. This morning, the car is stuck in 3rd. The clutch seems to engage/disengage properly. I'm not sure what I'm dealing with here.... Clutch, synchros, ???

I need big time help here guys.

it almost sounds like you were running with no fluid in the tranny... has it been changed or checked recently? seen any leaks?

No obvious leaks. I haven't checked the fluid. How would I do that anyway?

It seems odd to be clutch related, because when the car is off, even with bad synchros you can usually shift a tranny through the gears, even with the clutch engaged (assuming you aren't parked on an incline and have your parking brake on)

I was able to pull car out of 3rd by pushing car with clutch disengaged. Immediately after, all gears were working. However, I lose them intermittantly when pulling in and out of driveway. I can also hear the clutch engage, I never did before. Could this be fly-wheel related?

Also, for the last year, 2nd gear would pop out if clutch was disengaged. Don't know if there's a link there.
