i have never really driven a carburated car. i have a carbed 79 wankel RX-7, with a 4 speed and when i put the gas down it would spin the tires. but my corvette wont, it just boogs down and acts like its going to die. i cant give it more than 1/4 throttle under 3000 rpms or it boogs. is something wrong the thing just seems out of tune. any suggestions guys, timing? bad carb? bad gas?

vetteKid- I would be leaning towards a carb rebuild,or at least this is where I would start. My car had similar symptom when I bought it.Among other things, the accelerator pump was bad.I had my buddy rebuild the carb and it made a huge difference. A carb kit is not that expensive. If the kit you get does not come with a float, get one of those also.I know the GM kits I sell at work do not come with one.Let me know how you make out.

If it has the original QJet carb on it then I would bet it is due for a rebuild. Todays Gas isn't very kind to the rubber gaskets and such in these carbs. There is a gentleman up here in NH who does all my QJet carbs and they always run awesome. if ya want his number just drop me a line.
