Car cover ?

I got one of the "generic" covers at the auto store in Flemington there's one in Somerville too. Cost was about $100, by Covercraft, it's waterproof for the most part and soft.
It goes on and off easy with two drawbacks: it is hard to tell front from back even though I put a few arrows in marker and it does blow off easy if you do use it outside. Securing it from the wind is tough since it just has a center tie that has to go under the car and then you have to rig a few lines to the front and back wheels.
Mostly it just keeps the cats who live in our garage from scratching the paint. Those two lazy good for nothings are happily curled up on it now.

I can understand the cats loving the cover. My Golden Retriever hangs in the storage area while l drive but my cat will not go into my garage, but again it's a wild cat.

9 times out of 10 covers do more harm than good! With most covers you'll still get dust on your paint and the on and off motion of the cover will scratch the paint.

It's funny that you said this because l person l deal with in business has well over 100 cars in his collection and he only uses a cheap Sears car cover that is generic and weighs nothing to cover his cars for that reason.

I've used one of the heavier outdoor covers since I've had the car and have never had a problem with scratches on the black paint. I got a fitted cover for about 100 from california covers. :dance

I got mine at Walmart,, < $70, no complaints. I first checked eBay but even if they appear less expensive, after shipping ,it comes out to about the same as you would pay in a store. bonus,, if bought in a store u can always return it..

Wolf make a very light, very good cover for indoor use only, although I haven't seen them advertised in a while.
The problem is.. "where do you put them after taking them off your car?" If you have a multi-car garage it seems to be easy to stretch the off-loaded cover on to the car next to you. I've gotten to the point I don't use them at all.

This seems to be the best one out there, good for both indoor and outside use. being that l only use it for indoors after l clean my vette Sunday night l cover it until the following weekend. This keeps the dust and airborne crap off it.
If l take my vette out for a short ride l clean my vette off with a calif duster then cover it but if l go on a short trip on the open roads l will not cover it until l wash my vette.
I learned how to fold it fast and unfold it fast.
i picked mine up on the corvette forum for $90 shipped, it retails for over $300 plus shipping and it came with the bag and lock. And to top it off it was in minto condition with only some dirty marks on the inside where the previous owner used a wheel dressing on his tires,

While l have to agree with you because 75% of the people who use a car cover either have the wrong type (cheap) or have no idea how to take them off and put them on and when it's safe to do so.
A car cover used outdoors can cause a wide range of problems because they tend to get dirty by just being outdoors. Most vettes kept out doors should not be covered unless the painted is well protected with at least 5+ coats of a good wax like Zaino. Even this is no guarantee. People forget that when the inside of the cover sits on a dirty surface it tends to pick up dirt and etc and when it's put on and off it will cause slight marks.
The trick is to only use a car cover on a clean and well waxed car only.

I only put the cover on during winter storage. The car is garage kept, but still like it covered,,, keeps the dust off the paint.

If the car is in the garage, they jump up on it to get a "vantage perch" for stalking mice and spiders.
I have begun to hat cats.

That's right, l used to find little off white dots on my vette and couldn't explain them until l was told that it was from spider droppings.
Also things tend to collect on them over the winter because when the weather turns cold l stop cleaning and only go out on sunny days. That's why l should have at least 15 coats of Zaino on by the time winter sets in.
This will protect my paint from my car cover.
I also use a calif duster before l use the cover. But if l get caught in bad weather then the cover goes into storage until l get the opportunity to wash it again.

I know it sounds stupid and Bubba but.................if it is ONLY for in the garage the best car cover is a simple cotton sheet. Cheap easy to wash, most car covers will hold moisture IN in a garage as they are waterproof, even the "breathable" ones don't pass moisture. Water condenses on the car and stays. But then again what the H#*@ do I know

Hello, I am in the process of purchasing a 2004 convert. and will transporting from Minn. across country to Kelowna BC.
I have a 1 ton truck and a flatdeck trailer.
The question is, do I cover the car and face the flapping of the cover for 2400 miles or leave it uncovered and face the possibility of stone chips?
Also are there any does and don'ts when it comes to tie downs of the car to the trailer.
