I was replacing the intake manifold gasket and after taking the carburetor off I noticed little lead ball laying in one of the valleys on the left side just under where the carb was. The ball is 6mm in diameter could this a discharge pump check valve ball? I rebuilt the carb about 12 years ago but did not mess with the check valve, engine runs good, starts, idles good, no leaks, and no problem with pickup. So my question is, could the discharge ball fall out of the carburetor ? and if it did how would it run? I will probably take it apart to check but damn, it looks so clean and pretty.

The only 6mm ball inside your carb is your checker ball. The only way it can fall out is if the screw above it isn't there and then it should have found his way out from inside the fuel bowl. If this is the case the engine would hesitate during acceleration because the fuel from your acc. pump would return to the fuel bowl and not to the acc nozzles. So as you say the carb is running fine I find it hard to believe this checkerball belongs inside your carb.

Greetings Peter

thanks

thanks for the response. you are 100% correct that ball isn't going any where. It's not that I didn't think you were right. but I did not check the site before I took it apart, anyway everything looked good in there and where it should be. I am thinking now that the ball is a plug from the right rear corner of the carburetor, right over the secondary there is a hole that this ball fits. I am going to leave it out, thinking if it had gone in the carb could have been a bigger problem. runs good no leaks thanks again.
she is thirty years old here's to another thirty for all of us.

A few weeks ago, I started a thread about a discharge ball retainer on E4ME carb. At that time I was working on the TPS sensor and had taken the top part of the carb apart. (air horn). Same as you, I found this little ball sitting on top of the intake manifold during reassembly.

Thanks to Peter's help (who else) I was able to check a few things but everything seemed fine. Car runs well with no hesitation and no leaks.

To date, I still don't know where that ball goes. I'll keep searching, but I hate being stuck with leftover parts.

Regards,
Roger
