Can anyone tell me what car this carb is supposed to be on, I can't seem to find the number anywhere online.

7028202

I know its a 68 chevy, but thats about it.

Also what is the correct number for a 69 427/390 with a M/T?

i have the GM carb parts catalog and there is no 7028202 listed anyplace. the carb for the 69 427/390 MT is 7029215

Thats what I was coming up with, no such carb. But I'm almost 100% sure thats the number stamped on the carb.

This number is also on the carb - RP 29865 - does that mean anything to anyone?

you are looking at casting numbers. these carbs should have a round thin aluminum disk inserted into the side of the carb main body. these disks were lost on many carbs. the later ones had the part # stamped vertically on the throttle side above the secondary throttle shaft on the main body

Yes, these numbers are on the little disk on the side of the carb.

Could check my Rochester books tonight, but from the model number:
7028202, here is what I can tell you:
702 - 49 state carb, no special emissions tuning, i.e., non California. 02 indicates the carb was built in the '60. If it were 703, that too would be the '60's, but the carb would have special emissions tuning.
8 - model year, and this case, 1968
2 - Used by the Chevrolet Motor Division
02 - probably the base V-8 (small-block), more than likely at 255 or 300 hp 327, with automatic transmission (last number odd - manual, even - automatic, in most cases).
In almost every year, thru the 60's and early 70's, the base v8 carbs for automatic trans use ended in 202.

Actually, a second opinion said the number was 7026202, which is off a base '66. What is the difference in the carbs? Is it just the rods and jets? This carb is on a 69 427, which makes me think that if its not been re jetted that its not going to run too well. If I get it rebuilt, can it be rebuilt to exactly the same as the 69 427 carb?

Rochester Q-Jets weren't used on any Corvettes until 1968, and 7026202 was never used on any Corvette. It might be 7029202, which was used on '69 base 300hp automatics.

My Rochester books do not show a 7028202. There were 702X202 carbs built in '66, '67,& '69. The key here is statement about the little round tag. '65 through '67 Q-jets had their id # stamped on a little round tag on the left side of the carb just slightly forward of the primary throttle shaft. '68 up moved the number to the vertical rib at the secondary end. I know some people have said the Carter built versions only used the round tag, but I have too many Rochester built cores with the round tags and Carter built with no round tags. Anyway, if the id is on a round tag the carb has to be a 7026202. RP bulletin 9C-3022 indicates this is an early design carb used on base 327 engines (300 hp) with automatic transmission. And as John Z states, no Q-jet was used on a Corvette until 1968.Mike
