LEEJANDZ -- No luck yet, there aren't many Corvettes to choose from in Europe. I will probably have to import one from the states *sigh*

I can help you out with that. I live in Southern California.
Maybe the best place to find a quality CORVETTE.

How much were you looking to spend?
There are so many people on this site that are willing to help.

It might be fun to come out here and meet a few of the members and pick up your choice.
Dont settle for a VETTE. It is a buyers market over here with lots to choose from.

:m

Twinnie -- There are loads of vettes for sale in Europe

That may be true... but an original 80-82 with no rust is a lot easier to find here than there.

And I can almost guarantee it will be cheaper too.

;) ;) ;)

It may look more economical to import your own car but once you start to go through the whole paper mess you wish you wouldn't have done it yourself. Add to that the taxes, import fees and customs fees you have to pay. Then you have to have the vehicle testedso it will be admitted to be driven on the road.. and so on.. and so on.

I imported my own car and it was a major PITA, at least herre in the Netherlands.

If you had to do it again... Would you?
Or would you just pick up a EUROPEAN?

By the way, who did the turbo set up on yours???

:upthumbs

I would probably do it again because I know now how to do it and I have good contacts in the US. For a first timer it can get quite overwhelming and frustrating.

I did the turbo installation on my car, I do everything myself.

The engine is almost done, the car is not (huge pile of parts) and the intercoolers and ducting will still have to be figured out (when engine is on frame)

I bought my car cheap, it had theft damage and a new vin from a 1980 Calif. Emissions 305LG4 Corvette but the car was a numbers matching 1982, very late prod. # (23904 out of 25407) but I only found that out after I had taken the entire thing apart ;)

Thanks for offer, however California is on the west coast, so transport to Europe would have to include another $1-2k for land transport. Also, because of visa policy, I cannot come to USA easily, so probably my friend will do the actual buying.

I will have about $15k to spend, so $10k for the car and $5k for transport/taxes/repairs. Yes, I know it's not much :-)

Anyway, now I am waiting for my bank to lend me some money, so all I do now is browse classified ads and drool over what I think is one of the coolest cars ever made *cheers*

The freight via ship wouldn't be that much different from a west coast or east coast harbor. Mine is from WC Calif. too. There are special companies that will handle the transport for you for around 1000$ or so.

If you find anything in my area I would be more than happy to handle things for you.

Try looking at these 2 sites for ideas on what is available by me.

It is time to get excited!!!

topas has started his search.

Maybe Twinnie can chime in here and lend a hand on the logistical aspects of the import/export rules.

I can handle the inspection, purchase & transportation...
but I am ignorant when it comes to customs or any other information regarding US to EUROPE purchases.

:D

You'll need to get an export permit, which.. if the papers are in order and the title is in your name, won't be a problem. With those export papers, which have a declared value on them you have to go to the customs in the country where the car is imported. Then, after paying an import fee over vehicle value + shipping cost you're ready to have the vehicle inspected after which you can get a license plate. In some countries (like mine) you have to pay additional tax over the catalog value - a reduction over years and you'll have to pay that too.

It's quite a bit of work to go through all the customs yadda yadda and to save yourself a headache it might be wise, and not that much more expensive, to have it handled by one of the specialized companies.

I will be the one doing things in the US. (ie inspect, buy, transport, etc)
Do I have to handle the export permit?
Does the title have to be in my name or the buyers name (topas)

What "specialized" companies do this type of work?

Yeah, if you handle it on that side of the pond you have to get the export permit. Don't know if the car has to be in your name, could be.

There are several companies here in the Netherlands that do this for a relative small fee.

I think these guys do it:

It's been some time since I did this but I have the following papers:
- Certificate of Title - the back side will have to be filled out (application for transfer)
- Bill of Sale
-Export document

and then in the country of import you'll have to get an Import document, where the aboce things are needed to get it.

As for in who's name the car is when exporting, you might have to ask the customs over there, I don't know.

So how long ago did you get your VETTE?

Did the person that helped you get the car do most of the work or did you?

I still cant find any information on the export permit.
I will try my local DMV in the morning.

I got mine in 98. I got it from a dealership in CA (Inland Empire RV Center)

The export stuff was handled by the party in the US.

My email address is correct

LEEJANDZ@aol.com

I just sent you another EMAIL.
Did you get it yet?

What does the error message say when you try to email me?

Damned! Seems our emails are incompatible. I haven't received anything. Anyway, I sent you a personal message on this forum, you can find it in Settings. The message was (cca)

Unable to deliver mail in approtiate time.

It appeared three days after I sent you the email. The computer magic is sometimes strange :-)

Why dont/cant you get a 79 or 82.
That would give you more options.
