going in with new carpet any one care to offer any tips or pitfalls

ummm--- make sure the carpet matches the drapes? ;) ;LOL

underlayment...

go to lowes and get reflectex heat barrier ...looks like bubblewrap between foil....and some duct tape...put this under the carpet and you will find it helps with heat some and sound....the only advise i have for carpet install is a very sharp knife...not razor but better, again at Lowes...in the carpet area they sell a really sweet knife for carpet work...like a surgens scalpel...you dont have much to cut....just a few spots for the bolts and wires here and there...they make it pretty close....i installed the seat belt on the hump first so it would anchor it in one place that i was happy with....this is one of the holes you cut...then i made it fit the rest from that point...and use care around the kick panels...it tends to bunch up and makes them difficult to put back in with out crackin it...so dont force it in....if you need anything else give me a yell...i did mine at christmas time so its still fresh in my memory...i think!...
good luck pal...

I'm doing the carpet in a 73 right now, vettedude is right on the money. The reflectix is a definite must, about $15 a roll, 3 rolls will do the whole interior. The sharp knife makes the cuts easier, but fit it, fit it, and fit it again before you cut. Cut small and open it up as necessary. The hardest part I've had fitting so far is the rear compartment unit, I had to cut some of the insulation off the underside of the rear center carpet to get it to fit. Also, get some 3M Aerosol Trim Adhesive to help hold the edges where needed, you can get it at bigger Walmarts. Good luck, the results are impressive if your carpet anything like the ratty crap that was in this car.

I did the dynamat and then put heat shield on top of that, why, just went all out for the sound and heat reduction. Will be doing the doors in November with the same material.

The club members had great tips on leaving the carpet out and I used carpet sheers and a retractable knife to cut, plus cut the minimal so I have overhang.

Hey Joe, clean the bare floor with simple green. I ran extra wires to the area I may some day install a cd changer, amp,(passenger side storage compartment) and rear speaker box (along drivers' side to rear storage area). This will save trying to run them without hurting the carpet fit later. peace Bud
