my car doesnt need emmisions testing anymore. my cats are well worn, look like crap and are starting to smell of sulfur just abit. so should i have them cut out and replaced with just a straight pipe?

having 3 ctas on my car seems a bit restrictive and was wondering if by taking them off it might help[ the car breathe a bit better. [ i did this on my old 89 iroc and the sound did improve greatly]

thanks for any info.

Hi,

I think the performance will improve and I also believe the sound level will considerably rise. If you don't need them, why have them on?

I'd go ahead and take em' off.

Maybe it is easier to change the front Y-pipe with one from Mid America or Corvette Central. They have them without the cats. The big cat can be replaced with a piece of pipe. I would suggest, if you buy the Y-pipe, to take the car to a muffler shop so they can measure the pipes and install the flanges at both ends. That way, if you have to remove them for any reason, you can do it yourself. Also, check the catalogs: I think they have whole systems without cats but they will make a dent in your pocket.:eyerole
