Catalytic Converter Question

[1994Roadster]

I am attempting to diagnose a problem with my 94. My gas milage has worsened (went from average of 18-19 to 14-15 mpg city) and the car runs hotter (went from 175 to 190 city cruising) and I have a rattle in my exhaust on the right side. Can a chunk of converter break off and clog the exhaust? Any ideas?

Just recently, I have a rattle develop in the exhaust that sounded like rocks in a tin can. Turned out that the cat was coming apart. I got to it before it plugged up anything, so I can't say if the overheating and lousy mileage are part of that but it wouldn't hurt to have it checked.

The sound is exactly like you mentioned. I am going to order a new converter.
