I just gutted a pair of cats and installed them, I bought them on E-bay and they were suppose to be 96 cats, they were different than the ones that I took off my car, I think they might be 93 or 94 cats in any case the right side cat has 2 sensors one before and one after the cat, my right side only had the one sensor, I hooked up the wire harnesses and everything seems good no error codes noted the car runs significantly better the shift from 1st to 2nd is so awesome that I am a little concerned when I use the nitrous that the car is going to come completely unglued. I talked to a few guys who said that it might take a while before I get an error code that will cause the car to run rich. Can anyone confirm this or has had any expierence with this situation. By the way it only took 1/2 hr to gut the cats a pipe and small sledge hammer works wonders on it! LOL!

What you bought are cats off a 94 or a 95. Those cars had "partial OBD2" and included one rear sensor.

Typically the gain with "gutted cats" is 15-20hp but it depends on the engine and the rest of the exhaust system.

from what I understand that 2nd O2 towards the rear is useless. I have heard of people going to long tubes and leaving it disconnected and it never throws a code.
I have a set of gutted cats off a 94 in my garage if anyone else is interested.

UMM? Chuck I thought that your 96 would have 4 O2 Sensors. or atleast 3, becuase in 96 ODBII Came out and they put the rear O2's in to "Measure" cat efficiency. that is weird that your 96 does not have the post cat O2 sensor on the right side.. I dunno I wonder if anyone else out there with a 96 can tell me if theres is like that I'm just curious..

BlackNBlue 95

Yes you are correct, there is a 02 sensor after the cat on the right side, I guess I did a poor job of explaining, I am setting off error code now when I am driving at highway speeds, I just ordered a 02 simulator from an electronics outfit that should correct this problem. I have been advised by several people that on the 95 the 2nd sensor is a dummy sensor and does not do anything, on the 96 apparantly this sensor is active and does. In any case I will find out shortly I guess! lol!

Does it also have the second O2 on the left side as well I would think it should usually they have one after each cat 96-up

Sensor's

Yes Rich, it has sensor's behind the cats on both sides, I need 2 simulators to correct the error code. Have you worked on your rear? I just won an auction on E-Bay for 4 chrome ZR 1 Wheels, they are due to arrive in a few days, I am going to paint the brake calipers today (red), can't wait!

Zr1 Wheels are nice. Mine came with them luckly except they are pitting. Nope havn't had time to work on installing the rear end yet. BTW those simulators usually come with crappy instructions well I've only seen one here at my shop so I can only speak for that one.. just be careful installing it so you don't blow the driver for the rear O2's anyway thats it for now cofee break is almost over...

Hib,
Assuming stock LT1 w/ opened up air box, stock exhaust,
do you think you would get any hp? What about stock LT1
with free flowing exhaust?

just got a set of gutted cats

I just got a set of gutted cats for my vette, not for my kitched LoL..

anyway I'm curious to see how my car performs with my new mods :
Gutted Cats
3.07 Gears
Trans Go Shift Kit
Vigilante Convereter(Ordering Tomarrow)

Only thing sucks about gutted cats around here is I'll have to swap my originals back on when emmissions time comes. We have the IM240 Test where they run the car on a dyno and simulate a few diff. driving conditions. BLAH
