Fellow C4 Enthusiasts,

I have a 96 CE LT4. I was thinking of spicing it up a little by having a black stripe painted down the middle, like the white stripe on the GS. I saw a red C4 with a black stripe painted on it once at a gas station. Looked pretty good from where I was standing. Does anyone have any pics of a silver C4 with a black stripe or am I going to be the first to travel down this road? Or, maybe I am a little crazy for wanting to do something like this......your thoughts.

No your not the first

I've seen a picture online of a CE with black stripes but I cant remember where??? If I think of it I will PM you.

Later, Jim

I think this is a "questionable" idea!.... Caution flags on this one!!

I know that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but a black stripe on a '96 LT4 Collector Edition....unless this is a daily driver and you are not concerned about keeping it close to original for value sake, this idea may come back and bite you in the a##!

A 'normal' every day Vette is one thing...but you have what is destined to be a real classic!

Only my 2 cents worth here, but like a guy asked in another 'Vette forum awhile back...

"white outlined tire lettering on a C5, anyone have a comment about this idea"?

I kepted my comments to myself.....!!

My buddy Jay had his repainted and added the black stripe...looks real good!

Value on this car??

I know that Vette's hold their value to some extent. But, I would make the argument that supply and demand has a very detrimental effect on the value of a car. In regards to the C4, the supply was very high. I have tried to sell this car for as low as $17,900 and have had no bites. The list price for this car 10 yrs ago was over $42,000. I would be very surprised if this car, given the supply will ever approach that level again, especially with the new C5s and C6s of today. I am a C4 proponent and think that my return on my investment in this car is purely enjoyment and not monetary value. If you want to get a Vette for an investment, I would go for anything pre-1973.

A few years ago when I thought about striping my ole '92, I got a few models and hand painted them first - the Maisto models are cheap and you can use regular touch up paint. Then I looked at them for a while before deciding which way to go. This way, you can look at several different stripe colors before deciding.

I have seen red and black stripes on CE and both look good.

cclark905...you want to get an idea what these CE's with the LT4 option are bringing ...check out this site! By the way, this place WILL NOT budge off the listed price...and yes they sell them!!

By the way, I was not trying to "over" influence your desire to paint a black stripe on your Vette...just pointing out my opinion...anyhow...

LT 4 was a 1 year only deal and the CE also makes the # produced pretty small. Will it be worth a fortune tomorrow? doubtfull, but in 5 years there will not be that many around. Grand Sport LT 4at the Mecum auction in Kissimmee on 2/3/06 went for $80,000.00 . Way high but sill a point of reference. Rogers Corvettes which is the previous post is getting 34K for ok ones and i,ve seen one go at 41K, I live 15 miles away. Now again these are great cars in great condition. I would try and keep it as origional as possible unless you are going to drive it forever and no plans to ever get rid of it. Also you would have to look into the cost of that stripe. Paint isn't cheap and if you change your mind and want it back origional,,$$$$$. I paint cars and can tell you quality paint is getting more $$ than gas. Good luck...

Rogers....

Thanks!!! I am looking for opinions. I have listed mine in Autotrader, Corvette Trader and a couple of runs on Ebay. All I seem to get are car brokers who want to sell it for me. I don't think that an asking price of $17,900 for this car is unreasonable, especially after seeing that website. This is my bottom line price. I will not sell it for under this as I believe it would be a gread dis-service to the C4 LT4 in general. I will not disgrace this car by selling it for less than $17,900. At this rate, I am going to keep it and have the black stripe painted on it so I can really enjoy it for years to come. I did not buy this car for a monetary investment. If I wanted that kind of investment, I would have bought a chrome bumper Vette. This one is a driver and a looker all in one, that is affordable. My enjoyment is the return I am getting on this investment.

cclark905...

If you are going to proceed with the GS stripe idea and in black...consider black with 'silver pearl metalic' in it...check out some color charts from various new car colors...especially cadillac, you may be on to something here that will draw attention...the silver metalic will pick up the base color of your car and give it a real neat illusion!

Post your results when you are done...you now have alot of curious CAC'rs standing by!

Elaine,

I am still interested in selling. My personal email is chadclark@comcast.net. Email me and I will email you some pics and some more detail along with my contact information also. I am in the Dallas area. Thanks!!!
